I'm up. Since your title is about frames, I took a moment to drool over the Carbon Soloist SL and the Pinarello Paris Carbon. No, Vivian doesn't approve.

Crap! How long's that been in the works? Even before Ford pulled?

it was new to me. apparently robin miller was fired today for writing some doom and gloom article pointing to the current state of things. basically just telling it like it is.
anyway, one of the guys i paint for knows kevin kalkhoven and says things aren't looking good at all. he just said keep your fingers crossed but don't be surprised.

That's not a good sign. Part of me would rather see them fold than run a farcical series.

I wonder if this is why Berger still hasn't confirmed Speed for this year for Toro Rosso.

Wow. The new Honda is hideous.

actually i think speed was confirmed either yesterday or today. but you're right - it would be a shame to see things get any worse. i'm just wondering what's going to happen with long beach if champcar doesn't answer the bell. i wonder if ALMS will still run.

And that racing thing is addictive, no? :D

Yeah it really is addicting. most likely i'll just do a parts swap but get a DA crank instead. man i still have 1/4 of a mountain bike still waiting to be built. should i just sell the parts i have and use the money towards the frame? 2007 x-9 rear derailleur, 2006 x-9 triggers, 2005 pg990 cassette, access xcl frame with canecreek s3 headset, ctr carbon riser handlebar. anyone want it all?

Just compare the price of cycling to something like, oh, kart racing, and make the comparison on a per hour basis, and suddenly, even the most expensive cycling gear seems dirt cheap. :D

voltman
02-27-07, 01:05 AM
Sell. You aren't going to ride the MTB anyway. You'd much rather ride a Look!

And you know as soon as you put that crank on, you're going to want full DA. Or at least 10spd Ultegra.

unfortunately, since champcar includes the long beach venue as one of its assets, tony george would most likely have first crack at it. he already tried to buy it out from under them once.

i'd be okay with it if the IRL adopted the CART/champcar formula, but if crapwagons are the only open wheel series we're going to have in the US, then i'm out for good.

I don't want to see Tony George even smugger.

Otherwise, you'd have to choose between the bucket or the COT for US racing.

we'll see how the month goes as i was a victim of credit card fraud. i may just end up selling all my mtb stuff cuz yeah, im most likely not going to ride it anyways :p . i already have 10spd ultegra. full DA...eeeh maybe just the cranks... and shifters...and brakes and derailleurs and ah crap. in the hole.

or i could just save my money and use it towards coilovers for my car. and also install my underdrive pulley and lower tie bar and then get equal length headers and and and.

$500 every time I pulled the tonykart out of the shed. endangered my wallet as well as my ribs. Cheaper than the $38,000 clavicle repair after dumping the ducati at 70 mph into willow's turn one.

Well, score another one for steel. I picked up my bike the other night. The handlebars were a little askew from the crash (easily fixed), but other than that, the bike is fine. I have some memory of there being quite a pile-up on top of it, and there sure are some interesting tire scuffs in very interesting places. But it looks like I just have to dust it off, and it's good to go.

Mmmm. Love my steelie!!

still waiting on feedback whehter or not theyve disputed the transaction. im hoping i get my money back.
i have the UDP and pulleys sitting in my room as well as the lower tie bar. Headers, yeah not much gains since it is N/A but it does smooth out the power band a little better. they do sound freakin sweet too.

Luwin- its a 4th gen maxima (1995)

I want to start modding. I've only done one or two little things to my car, but once you get into real performance mods, it adds up so dang fast.

I want an intake, throttle body, cam, headers, hi-flow cats, x-pipe, cat back exhaust...Big bucks.

Just curious, why would you want to do all that?

(For the same reason I'm want the stupid expensive titanium frame I suppose).

Nice ride! I'm sure Voltman has a personal appreciation for that car. It's hard balancing different hobbies . . . especially if both are so resource-demanding. I have a project track car sitting up in Seattle that I'm debating selling to pay for some cycling-related purchases.

But back on topic . . . I think you will enjoy the headers - they really open up the sound. I had installed a set on the wife's TSX and while it's not very noticeable under normal driving, if roars under WOT - if you are running under a freeway overpass or a tunnel, the sound and the echoes make it sound full-racecaresque.

Mo - I hear you on performance mods adding up. One good thing about going all-out on a car, though - is that you can gain some sponsorships or make some connections which come in handy when it comes to modding cars you attain in the future. I scored the coilovers, intake, headers, and brake pads for the wife's car pretty much for little or no cost because of people I have come to know from various companies that were looking for some real-world R&D.

Check out Gibson Performance Exhausts (http://www.gibsonperformance.com/)- they're running a search for cars/trucks/SUV's to develop their exhausts on and there's a list of vehicles they need on their website - you can score a free exhaust that way. I submitted an app for our Honda Pilot and am awaiting a reply from them.

Your car has high flow cats.

Or just give Mr. Lingenfelter a holler, and drop off a $41k check along with your car . . .

thanks! well im not about to drop $800 for headers on a car that's filled with problems. squeaky suspension, a substantial multiple cylinder misfire in the engine under WOT (which is weird because i have no CEL, and i dont have time to troubleshoot), and not to mention its a 12 year old car with lots of dash and other interior creaking noises. great condition but old car.

re: my mods...Like Ron's Ti frame, are totally unnecessary for my daily driving requirements...but when you've got so much potential, it's fun to tap into it.

The LS-1 on the C5 generation Corvette are notoriously under-respirated. The intake is sub-par, the cast manifolds could be improved with (at minimum) shorty headers, the X-pipe should allow a better exhaust flow, the mufflers are pretty much for sound only. I didn't think my cats were high-flow...I defer to the exhaust guru. I think my cats were recalled at one point. Need to check with GM.

Maybe with my next x-mas bonus, I'll drop a Magnussen Supercharger in there. That'll get me to work faster.

Re: Gibson...my car isn't needed as a guinea pig :(
