let me rephrase that when i say casual i mean any bike goes mountain,road,singlespeed whatever but doing some real riding 20,30,40, etc. miles thanks.

There are rides that start in queens regularly. Some rides go through brooklyn, but not many start there.

I would strongly suggest doing some of the "C" rides, if you want a low-key, non-paceline atmosphere. That, at least, is what their recommendations are... I gather the A rides and even some B are much quicker than it seems you are looking for.
