Actually if it were me doing that, I would be a little smarter. I would put FREE HUGS on one side of the sign and then I HAVE AIDS on the other side. Then I would only display the FREE HUGS sign to hawt chicks.

I think its a neat concept. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable hugging just anybody though.

That's awesome. I'd hug that dude, I'm secure enough with myself. I had a conversation with a friend of mine awhile back about the lack of touch in modern society, especially if you're single and/or not living near family. We started keeping track of daily touch (hugs, handshakes, high 5's, etc.) to see how much contact we were getting. The results were surprisingly low (some days as low as accidental touch getting change at the store). We wanted to stand on two of the busiest corners on campus and offers hugs just to see who would take us up on it and how they would react, but it never happened (too much school work). Being an attractive female, I think she would have won, afterall, who wouldn't hug a good looking young woman? I think most American men are too homophobic to hug another guy, especially a stranger, and young women might be a little cautious hugging a strange guy. Maybe this spring...
