I see the spinning ball a little too often with Firefox (iMac G5 with 1GB of RAM). I love using it though and will simply shut it down and restart it every few days or so. I've read many people have simply switched back to v1.5. I haven't gotten to that point yet, though. Since I never shut down my machine I figured restarting the browser every few days is not so bad. I have noticed this happening if I start hitting flash heavy pages.

I found Opera to be a little better but couldn't stand the layout of the app itself.

Give it a whirl and get rid of it if you don't like it.

I go back and forth between Firefox and Safari. Firefox is ultimately tailorable but I like the way Safari is laid out as it is.
We don't have to worry about all the security holes of PC's so it's all about which one you prefer esthetically.

I'm not a computer geek, or anything, but I'm not sure what you mean? I'm on an intel macbook, and it wrks fine for me?

I have a G5 and see memory leak issues.

sorry. that was a little vague. applications that are not yet coded for the newer intel macs run in a sort of emulation or translater (for the lack of better words) ... so, in theory it's slower. but, if you don't have anything to compare it to or your workflow isn't too processor intensive you'd be fine.

If you want a Mozilla-based browser on Mac, stay clear of Firefox and go for Camino. I've never gotten Firefox to work properly with all the little quirks, broken features and memory leaks... plus it's just damn slow. Camino is built on similar architecture and is functionally about the same as Firefox but is actually built specifically for the Mac and thus runs considerably better.

Though I definitely understand the need for something other than Safari, which takes some work to get set up to run well, and it still won't display some pages...

Yeah, it'll do tabs and pretty much all the other same features as Firefox... only real difference is it doesn't support extensions. I don't consider that a big deal, since it has a built-in adblocker and such, but it is a consideration if you use other plugins.

Weird. I've been using FireFox since day one (Dec 23, 2006) without one single quirk on my C2D MacBook. I'm using it right now. I don't like Safari one bit, but it's a personal preference thing.

I don't see why anyone evangelizes one thing over another. If you like Safari, stick with it. If you like Windows, Stick with it. If you feel inclined to try something, just try it for yourself instead of asking a bunch of biased bigots what they would do. If you don't like it, don't use it anymore. We're talking about a few megs of hard drive space, not a new mortgage.

What's the difference? The speed of my browser is rarely rate limiting. It's usually either the human or the network connection.

In my opinion, use whichever one you like most. It all does the same thing.

I've had computers come in the shop with literally 3" of useable browser available Everything else was search bars, hot bars, helper bars, etc, ad nauseum. :rolleyes:
