New Sturmey-Archer ASC Three Speed Fixed Hub?
Reportedly, SunRace/Sturmey-Archer is considering doing a new production run of the ASC 3-speed fixed-gear hub, or an updated version of it. Given SunRace's track record with Sturmey-Archer, I would expect a new version to be more reliable than the original.<P>
They're not certain about how much demand there might be for it though. If this is something that would be of possible interest to you, let them know by sending an email to them:

my questoin was going to ask sheldon if he knew, since he posted it originally. if he didn't respond, then i would have asked what their ideal price would be.

tech question: how much slop would need to be built into the hub to allow for transmission? (By slop, I mean that loose chain feeling). I've ridden on 3 speed hubs converted to two speed, and they were really annoying for trackstanding and backpressure with all the slop.
Is it a surmountable engineering problem to have zero slop and 3-speed planetary transmission? How would the clutch work?
If it could be made well, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I understand the ratios would be 100% 90% 75%. I am very excited by this idea. Emailing now.

i hope it won't look all modern and plasticy... these things tend to be silly looking the second go round, look at the shimano nexis thing, pretty ugly. some how some of these designs seem to devolve.
be sweet if they got phil to do the exterior shell..

I agree that the Nexus hubs are pretty ugly. Here is the current version of the venerable AW. It's not too different from the earlier ones. My question is what options we would have for shifters. I don't care much for grip shifters.
