I notice in a lot of photos and also on this forum that it seems like "Baby Boomers" make up the majority in ownership of Tandems. Am I correct? Are you willing to share your ages?
I'm 56 (almost 57) and my better half is 55 (almost 56).

Oh crap! We fall in the 7%!! And the numbers fall off big time from there.......You know TandemGeek, you could have lied or manipulated the survey to make us feel better. I'm not even going to share this with the
wife....noooo way!
45 and 40, but we feel 35 and 30.

Yes and no...
Remember my admonishment on all my internet-based surveys: the data is "interesting" because it's highly skewed by other demographic considerations such as who's spending their time on internet forums. My take is, the right (high) side of the bell curve is highly under-representing a very large segment of the tandem community who, frankly, don't "do" forums or surf the net. If they did, I think your "group" would be on par with the teams that fall in the 80 - 100 combined year categories.
Secondarily, remember that all of the teams who responded to this survey have collectively aged 4 years...
Seriously, web survey day is really screwed up and should never be looked at as more than purely "interesting" or entertaining. For example, when I asked what types of tandems folks owned Co-Motion was the most well-represented brand. Frankly, there's no way that's possible based simply on annual production and sales numbers but what it did suggest is that Co-Motion buyer's were far more likely to belong to tandem mailing lists or participate in tandem discussion forums.
21 and 22
I believe we're a bit in the minority. We love it though
Another minority: 74 and 72 years young!
Combined age = 105.
Perceived age = mid-20's.
I don't wanna grow up!:D
Dang, we just hit combined age of 50 a few weeks ago. :D

Formerly Lordoftherings...
Combined chronological age 113:eek: . Combined biological age (estimated) 73:D . Hey 55 is the new 35;) .
Combined age of 119, but in a couple of weeks we move up a catagory. Can't reveal who's precipitating the move. Actually we feel like we're in the 80-89 group. Tandeming - the "fountain of youth"!
Team 80
Captain 41
Stoker 39. Don't tell her I told!
Weight? I am 192. In 15 years of marriage she has never told me what she weighs, and I never ask.
Combined we're 47.
Front - 39
Back - 8
Shayne
she has never told me what she weighs, and I never ask.
Smart:D
Last month we hit 100; 50/50; I, the captain, am the oldest... but not the wiser.
Combined age 107, perceived age mid 20's EACH. No way our perceived age is mid-20s as a team.:)
Geez, at 74/72 we've got kids/grandkids your age!
Our motto: Growing old is not for sissies!
Pedal on TWOgether!

Geez, at 74/72 we've got kids/grandkids your age! :D
Do they ride tandem bicycles?
combined age : 102 years and we just started so we have to get very old in order to enjoy tandem riding for many years !
combined age 98. I am 50, my stocker [wife] just turned 48. We have been married 29 years this month. We started tandem riding around 1984.

Geez, at 74/72 we've got kids/grandkids your age!
... our "kids" are 28 and 32 with grandkids ranging from 7 months to 7 years.
Our combined age is 94. 47 each.
Ricewind's question: do they ride tandem bicycles?
All of kids (3) have, and 2 of the 4 grandkids have.
But none are as great a stoker as Kay/mom/grandma!
Rudy/zonatandem
My average age is 30.75 since I am 61.5 years old.
Captain - 56; Rear Admiral - 51. Married 31 years - and riding singles together since 1973 and just entering the tandem world last year in January, 2005. My wife was the one who resisted a tandem and when we finally did get tandem the deal was that we would ride our singles half the time. Well, she loves the tandem (and I do too). 3400 miles on the tandem - 600 miles on our singles in 2006.
Bloomington, IN
Captain is 44.
Stoker will hit 50 in a couple weeks.
My wife and I bought our Comotion Big Al when we were 32 and 30. Seven years later we are still enjoying every ride!
Thanks TandemGeek for making us feel better knowing the survey was taken a few years back.
Thanks to everyone for making us feel part of this forum. Your all very much appreciated!
Sincerely,
Linda & Lew
47 and 46 with kid stokers at 11 and 14, all tandeming for 8 years. Even though I was hot for tandeming, we waited 10 years before getting one. As Margaret says, "it took us that long to get ready for it."
Our combined age is 106 but my wife only looks 35 (its her birthday tomorrow) which would put us at 88 and since we live in Canada that is about 75 American at the current exhange rate!
I have to laugh as we are currently vacationing in Honolulu where my son and I have been riding daily on our Double Vision which would give us a combine of 66( 55 for the captain and 11 for the rear admiral want to be) However one of my missions in life is to introduce folks to the joys of recumbents as well as tandems with our Independent pedal system on our Double Vision. Since I have been here I am approaching introducing 3,000 first time riders to recumbents and probably tandems as well. I gave an 84 year old Italian lady her first recumbent ride the other day after we had climbed Diamond Head. She loved it and didn't want to get off. Today I gave an adventurous lady a ride with my 2 year old grandson in tow in his burley. I didn't ask her her age but she did exclaim that life begins at 70 as she eased herself down into the rear admiral's seat. My usual Rear Admiral, my wife and I have a combine of 96!
It all depends on who the stoker is...
With my wife, we make 79 combined years.
With my son, we make 46 combined years.
With both tandems carrying our entire family of four, we make 93 combined years.
Combined age 133 (66 & 67). Watch it Zonatandem, we're catching you up!!
Just had some good longtime friends 'retire' from tandeming/riding due to health issues: She 83, he 82
For her 80th b'day they bought a new tandem and promptly did the club's metric century!
Our idols . . .
46, 5 and 5, so a combined age of 56.
A neighbor saw us ride past the other day and later told me neither of the kids was peddling. I thought I was just suffering from a long, cold winter and too much holliday cheer hanging on. <g>
