Hey!

So i'm most likely going to be moving to Golden, CO this summer with my SO (Significant Other) who got accepted into the Colorado School of Mines for Grad-School. So i'm starting to do a bit of job-searching in the area since i'll need a job! But, the cyclist that i am, i'm also going to want to get involved in the local bike-scene. I was wondering what sort of clubs exist in or around Golden, CO?

There are plenty of clubs, and tons of great routes.

For starters check out Rocky Mountain Cycling Club (http://www.rmccrides.com/) and Team Evergreen (http://www.teamevergreen.org/index.html)

There are also several BikeForums members in the area (Me included!)

I moved to Golden last summer, you will love the area for riding. For racing check out the American Cycling Association's web pages, the organization that runs most of the racing in CO as opposed to USCF in many areas. I've seen that there is goign to be a weekly training crit in Golden this summer, as well as handful of races and hill climbs. The Mines holds a two day race in the early spring as well.

I haven't found a club so I can't help you there, but the folks that hang out here are fun to ride with and have started getting rides together pretty frequently.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, there are plenty of BF memebers that are in the western suburbs.

Again, welcome, you will be amazed at the bike traffic you will see here in our little town. And if some guy in a Tinkov jersey flys past you down Lookout mountain, yeah, its likely him. Or if you see a group of guys wearing any number of of US pro jerseys, they likely aren't posers. I have seen the slipstream/healthnet/name it guys quite a bit as well.

Awesome. I'll make sure to look them up when i get there. I was wondering if there were any good map programs you use for plotting rides that also show terrain etc? I have Topo USA East Coast (some one stepped on the damn CD and cracked it, so i cant use it anymore) for when i ride out here and am thinking about purchasing the West Coast version (i believe CO falls under the West) and the most up-to-date version (mine was//is a few years old).

They have a few issues, but show climbing, etc and are free. :)

I also have TopoUSA 5.0, that I use sometimes.

Not much of an MTB-er i'm afraid...i'm strictly a roadie! I do have a MTB but have had it for 6 years now so its old and due for some maintenance.

I'll take a look at those sites but will probably end up getting topo 6.0 west anyways!

See if you can get into married student housing. When I was there, and married to a Coed, as a Senior in Mining We got to stay in the School Presidents' house with Doctor McBride and his wife. He always had a married Senior housesitting for him due to his frequent trips. Have your spouse contact the Alumnii Association, they have amazing contacts for housing. As for racing contact the SelfPropulsion shop in town. When I lived there later in the 1980s the owner, Portia Masterson, ran weekly USCF time trials up LookOut Mountain
