I have a Specialized Sequoia Expert with Schimano 105 deraillers/shifters with 3 gear rings on the front. This shifter has 4 detents to allow adjustment on the two smaller gears to eliminate rubbing the chain against the derailler when you are on opposite ends of the front and rear sprockets. This sounds like a good idea but if you try to go from the small sprocket to the middle one in one shift with out going through the exta detent you can drop the chain because there is not enough throw to fully go up the middle gear. Has anyone any experience with this? I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks.

Indexed front shifting is a bad idea that the marketing scamsters have shoved down most bike makers' throats. Use Grip Shift if you have flat bars, a bar-end shifter if you have drops, but accept the truth that front indexing is an intentional and calculated consumer fraud of Shimano's, and change that front shifting control.

OSCAREGG,
What do you need to do to change it?

1. Buy alternate shifter
2. Remove stock shifter from handlebar
3. Install and adjust
It's possible your dealer will give you some credit towards the new part if it's a new bike--the notion of what you want to do will no doubt appeal to a mechanic; ask the oldest mechanic in the store before anyone else. You want to ask someone with enough experience to see the bike's true problem and sympathize!
