View Full Version : Best way to "freshen" the TSB?

So I'm rocking around a -30 TSB right now, and I'm wondering what's the best way to recover a bit. Will light riding (<60% FTP for, say, an hour) help me more than just not riding at all for a day or two?
The best way to have your TSB go up is to take a full day off the bike. Whether or not that's the best for your legs depends on the rider. Most folks like to do a 30-minute spin for recovery.
Assuming you are racing on Sunday, I would take a day off the bike tomorrow. On Saturday I would ride no higher than endurance pace for an hour with two or three 2-3 minute low VO2Max bursts in the middle of the workout (little hills, perhaps) just to open up the legs.

ok, under the adage of the only stupid questions is the one not asked..
Whats is this TSB of which you speak? How did you lose it, I know from ZImbo how to get it back.
I assume I haven't read the book or something, anyways....
What the heck is it?

Based on a quick google search, I think they must be talking about the Tennessee School for the Blind (www.tsb.k12tn.net/). Or maybe the Texas School of Business, where I imagine they teach Enron-style accounting?
Anywho - I'd like to know the answer to this question as well - is it from the Hunter & Allen Training with a Power Meter book?

TSB = Training Stress Balance. A "scientific" measure of your overall potential for athletic performance, based on your fitness + freshness.

How does one measure it?
All you need to do is buy a power meter and CyclingPeaks WKO+ software...

Rapid rise in TSB (ala day off) always ends up with crap performance for me. Steady gradual taper works better. I can flatten TSB with longer endurance level ride, and gradually let off the gas with an "opener" style sprint intervals with long endurance recovery. Either way, keeping endurance level (L2) rides truly in L2 means holding back a lot. But it pays off at the end of the taper.

lol.
personally i find after a day completely off from a particularly draining workout (or couple days of hard workouts) im in my best form. ive tried slow tapering and it just doesnt do it for me. staying off the bike on recovery days is also a good mental break for me. everyone's different.

The thunderstorms that just rolled in will make staying off the bike tomorrow easier. Hopefully they'll leave Saturday morning, giving way to gorgeous weather for the Sunday race :)
WTF is a TSB when it's at home????
sounds like w@nk to me....get out and train.

With full day rests, due to being ill, here's how my TSB progressed into the positive:

HIT = High Intensity training?
I thought a HIT is what you took off a crack pipe?
Or what people don't do to Tammy Thomas

Hmm...don't know about the wind direction but I thought the rule was: "hidden away on your own, while listening very carefully" :D

Stupid glossary doesn't show ROFLMAO or even LOL. What use is it?
And what's the go with that table of numbers with everything down to five decimal places?!?? Is that like measuring your waking heart rate, oops sorry, HR (my bad) to three decimal places and worrying if it's out by more than 3 x 100ths of a BPM. Or should that be stated as "more than 3 mBPM"?? I'm confused.

Now now.. my excel spreadsheet calculates out like that too. Granted, I've got the format to only show 1 decimal place, but... well... there are some geeks among us that like to see things REALLY accurate.
