Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I asked for the mods to delete it because it had turned into a Foo thread, which was not my intent :( .
Anyway, Mr. East Hill and I will be there for the ride, and we will be doing the 40 mile Classic Ride.
And we're going to win the raffle :D .

I plan to start my 40 mile ride at 0800. What time are you folks getting in?
Sorry East Hill, I decided not to do this ride after all. Hope to meet you some other time !

Nope, the RRs are holding out for the Wildflower. Sorry we're going to miss you good people.
Anyone in for the Wildflower? Oh, should I start another thread then?

When's the Wildflower? Maybe I can do that too.

Chico is 4/22, I think ... Creston is the following week, but registration for that was closed, 9 hours after it opened. There was some serious ballot stuffing going on

I'm coming in from Reno the night before. Plan on starting the 40 right at 8:00 also.

Hey dpb13,
I go to Reno/Sparks a lot for work. Maybe we can ride together there sometime. I'm usually there for two/three nights at a time.
Hope to meet you at Bike the Buttes. I'll be on a REI Novara road bike.
cantdrv55-Sounds good to me. I'll be the big guy on the Specialized Allez Elite. BTW, if you are looking to ride around here, and people to do it with you might want to check out (if you haven't already) the Procrastinating Pedalers (www.pedalers.org (http://www.pedalers.org)). They usually have after work rides on Wed. and Thurs. with Wed. being a "paceline" training and Thurs being a "show and go".
Hope to see you soon.
BTW, a bit off topic, but is anybody doing the Lodi Sunrise in May? I'm taking a crack at my 1st century.

I haven't quite formalised my start time, but 0800 sounds good. Too bad I'm going to miss the RRs and Jobob--darn!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where a good meeting place would be so us BF and TE members can all meet and greet? Before? After?

East Hill-My first time down there so I don't know my way around. Like I said, I am heading down Friday (staying at the Best Western). I plan on driving out to the start and maybe doing a little ride on Friday afternoon, so perhaps I can find some kind of meeting spot then. Personally before works better for me, because I have to leave pretty quickly after the ride to head up to Redding to see my son.

My wife and I are driving up from the bay area in the AM (in a silver Dodge Caravan). We plan to leave at 0600 so we can be there in plenty of time before 0800. Maybe we can just meet up at the registration site unless dpb13 can find a more convenient place. I'm the only one riding. Wifey is there for moral support since this is my first organized and long ride (40 miles is very long for me).

I'm going to be heading over to the Best Western to meet bigbossman and get my ride from him! I think he said he'd be there after 10.00 pm on Friday night. My husband's mum lives about a mile and a half away from the Best Western.
So, it sounds as if I can at least meet dpb13 and the bigbossman family before the ride on Friday.
:D
Have to figure out something for everyone else...

I'll be traveling with a wife and a young daughter (read - I'll be outnumbered and subject to veto by two women), so all estimated times are approximate. I just drive the bus, man, I can't make 'em move any faster than they feel like at any given time... :D
That being said - I will be arriving Friday night "sometime", and will be staying at the Best Western. We are not signed up for the ride, and will be registering on the day of. So, the registration place would be best for me to meet everyone before the ride. It is hard to miss - it is a big hall-type meeting building sitting diagonally on a corner lot. I'll have my cell with me, and at least one of you has that number.... ;)
8:AM sounds good to me. Caveat - right now, the extended forecast is calling for mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain. If it's crappy out, I won't have much luck rousting the girls out of the rack. I'll still ride if they don't, assuming the weather isn't a total loss.
I'm on the fence about whether to do the 40 or the 100. I'll probably go with the crowd - I wanna be doing what all the cool kids are doing..... :)
I will be there too I am driving up that morning I am scheduled to do the 100 mile loop. I will be riding a blue giant OCR C2. If anyone is comming up from the east bay I will be happy to carpool.

Right now in the SF Bay Area, it is 70 degrees, blue skies, and almost no wind. It is a perfect day to ride. Hard to believe a storm is coming for tomorrow, but that's what the forecast calls for - 70% chance of rain.....

ok so the most recent forecast calls for 40% chance of rain for Bike around the Buttes tomorrow. Since we have never ridden in rain for any length of time, what type of gear do you folks usually take for such conditions?
If it were me, I'd probably just wear knee warmers, arm warmers, and a windbreaker or rain cape. It's not going to be that cold, just wet.

A car. :D
Typically, I won't start a ride if it's raining - but that's just me. If it's wet in the morning, I'll probably hang out until it stops raining.
That being said, I've never started in the rain but I've finished in the rain a time or two. I don't bring anything special for it, especially if it's not cold out.

Exactly what I wore Wednesday except this time, I am wearing a lightweight jacket. You know those waterproof soft shell jackets that REI sells for like $125? Well, they're not waterproof. This time, I am buying plastic, baby!

Performance has a rain jacket for something like $9-$12. I bought one a couple of years back, but have never used it. Maybe this weekend??

It was a rain-out for us. I went up and hung around for a while, but we (the wife, daughter, and I) decided not to go out. Just didn't feel like spending $35 x 3 for a wet 40 mile ride, when Sunday is probably going to be nice and dry.
So, we took a pass. We had a great time anyway, meeting a few BF members (Blankcrows and Easthill), having a great breakfast, and fooling around in Old Town Sacramento.
For those that did ride, I hope you enjoyed Boat Around...er....I mean Bike Around the Buttes. I did the 40, and am still drenched I think. Funny thing is, still a great ride. Sorry I missed you guys, although I think maybe I saw you all at the Reg. place. Oh well, maybe next time.

Ok, we did the entire 100 (105 for me)! The first 20 was pretty rugged with the rain and wind. The second 20 was a little more bearable. The third 20 hit us pretty hard with one particular downpour. The final 40 was fabulous! We stayed dry and got see the buttes up close as well as some ill tempered llamas! I'm glad we stuck it out for the entire ride. Those providing food and support were extremely nice and helpful. We plan to go back again next year...hopefully with better weather.

I plan on doing both.
The Sunrise Century is the better of the two, with some climbs and nicer scenery, but possible headwinds for the last 20 miles or so. The Delta Century is flat and fast.

That's the first time I've ridden in conditions like that and as under prepared as I was clothing wise, I was astonished at the number of riders just wearing bike shorts. At one rest stop I saw a woman whose legs looked like they were going to break off they were so red.
