Trek 7.2 Hybrid, Barends?

I picked up a trek 7.2 last weekend first bike in years. I had used to ride, road bikes years ago. Anyway my hands are taking a beating even with gloves on. So I was thinking about some Barends. Any suggestions? I Was thinking more options for my hands might be good.

It may also be your position and riding style. Barends will give you more riding position options and help prevent numbness from being in one position for a long time. But if your hands are getting beat up from rough terrain barends may only be part of the solution.

If you are not sure about your position, try the shop where you purchased the bike for advice. This will be a good indicator of their service.

I did this with my Trek hybrid. I got some inexpensive bar ends and angled them somewhat forward, giving me the option of changing hand position, especially rotating my wrists around to a more road like position. It definitely helped. Eventually I just got a road bike.

I bought a "flat-bar" road bike recently with bar ends and like the setup a lot. I'd recommend them highly.

$15 for nashbar trekking handlebars and some effort could be another solution

It says they're for road bars but I don't know how they're supposed to attach. They just look like oversized one-turn bar ends unless I'm missing something.

They might stretch you out more than you like with that silver clamping mechanism. Additionally, they put you wider than the existing bars you will have. These bars curve outboard then back inboard. Typical MTB barends move at forward but inward if angled.

I've preferred the L-bend bars (http://www.blueskycycling.com/product2059_41_-Titec-L-Bend-Bar-Ends.htm) for relaxed riding, smaller ones if x-country racing. If you what something with a smaller profile, which it looks like you don't, there are other models on Blue Sky Cycling (http://www.blueskycycling.com/cat-handlebars-bar-ends/3) and probably at Nashbar/Performance.

thanks for all the input. I went ahead and picked up some short strait trek barends this weekend at my LBS. Trying to build a relationsihp with them so I don't mind spending there vs online. They didn't have any of the L-Shaped but I like this so I may go ahead and pick up a cheap set on ebay to see if I like the L-Shaped more.

Here is what I went with .. Also picked up a cateye this week. Wish I would have done that on day one.
