I bid on and bought this Shimano BB
ebay auction of bottom bracket (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290083722998&rd=1&rd=1)
Was supposed to have a 107mm spindle. I was sent the same item, but with a 115mm spindle.
This is what I sent the seller:
"Received the BB-UN73 today - was advertised as a 107mm spindle length - you shipped me a 115mm. The BB you shipped is model# 1BBUN73B15,(the B15 signifying 115mm?),but I've measured it at that length, too. What's our next step? Thanks"
Today I got back his reply:
"No, that item was checked prior to shipping and the exact item as listed was sent to you.
We accept no returns"

Do not buy from this seller - sellchamp2007

In contrast, I ordered a SunTour freewheel which was advertised as a 13-26, which I wanted, but I have to admit that the photo depicted a 13-23, which I received. Even though the mistake was partly mine, the seller agreed to take it back and pay the shipping. Partly because of this positive, helpful attitude and partly because I may be able to find a use for it, I declined. Some folks understand good customer service; your seller clearly is clueless.

With only 52 feedbacks, you are dealing with a novice. You may be able to reason with him that you understand his skepticism, and that you would probably feel the same way if you were in his shoes, HOWEVER, you are 100% certain that you did not receive a 107mm spindle, and would appreciate it if they would ship the correct spindle in exchange for the 115mm one. Also, casually mention you are a member of the Bike Forum with thousands of members who are monitoring the outcome of this transaction.

If that doesn't work, then you can always submit a request for arbitration through ebay, through which you can state your case, and through which he will be forced to respond. The last resort is negative feedback.

Customer service is virtually dead everywhere, why would you expect to find it on eBay?

Unfortunately eBay has evolved to give the power to sellers. The few times I have sold on eBay, I do like it always used to be done, I leave positive feedback as soon as I receive payment and ship the item. The current norm is for a seller to not leave feedback until they receive feedback so they can use their feedback as retaliation instead of making the customer happy to get the positive feedback.

If this weren't the case, I would say to leave negative feedback. But, unfortunately in the screwed up customer is always wrong environment that is western society today, you have no recourse unless you don't mind the negative feedback.

I still hold to the position that as soon as the buyer has paid they have fulfilled their obligation, and deserve the appropriate feedback.

If a seller only posts feedback in response to buyer feedback it is like proclaiming that you will not do what it takes to make the transaction right. It is saying that the seller refuses to satisfy the buyer because they might not be happy with the purchase, and the seller is the only one that matters.

Not true. File a complaint through ebay channels. The one time I was sent bum stuff and the seller refused to make it right, 2 months later he was pleading with me to retract my complaint so they wouldn't boot him and make him start over with a new name.

3825 'em!

Give the asshat a neg and be prepared to get one yourself. As a former eBay Powerseller (over 11,000 positive feedback, 99.9% rating) I have little time for incompotent and insensitive sellers. If I, as a seller messed up, I did everything I could to make it right. This would be the last tme I dealt with this seller. Much as I have done with 'bikestopsales'. That dude has a lot to learn.

About 2 weeks ago a guy emails me saying the bike I sold him the rear triangle was bent together. I wanted pics because I couldnt under stand how that could happen as I had mounted a old rear hub in the stays. Just for that reason. And yes after hagling back and forth I agreed to give his money back if he paid to ship it back. Just to not get bad feed back. When I got the bike back it was just tossed in the same box no care taken at all.I emailed him and told him what goes around comes around. His reply F...YOU.

Negative Feedback: "Bought 107mm, got 115mm. Seller refused to make good."

Short, factual, and well deserved.

I concur. You already gave him a chance to avoid the negative rating.

I, too, have made one bad buy on eBay, which had been billed as a model-specific, comprehensive automotive repair manual CD, but which turned out to be super-basic generic "car repair 101" hints. The Power Seller couple eventually refunded my money and had to pay an additional $20 to have my negative feedback withdrawn through Square Trade. They were briefly de-listed after receiving a swarm of negative feedback just like mine, then resurfaced selling only clothing, Insane Clown Posse memorabilia, and other goods about which they actually knew something.

Aside from the seller being a jerk I don't see the problem with selling in USD. Perhaps I'm missing something....
