Does anyone know of any popular bike touring routes of Oahu? I'm going to be going there the first week of September, just trying to get some planning in. Can anyone rec. any good campsites in Oahu?
Thanks!

But feel free to post if you know of any good rides in Oahu that are somewhat safe(less traffic)

Robert, I recently found an excellent book dealing with bike touring in Hawaii. "Hawaii by Bike" by Nadine Slavinski, got it through Amazon.com. I was going to ride around the Big Island then changed to Kauai because the camping opportunities are better.
Good luck!

Here's a link to the Hawaii Bicycling League's Oahu map.

Hug the coast around the island and you will be fine. DO NOT ride the pali highway unless you are brave and know what you are doing. The downhill will take you to speeds much faster then most people want to go unless you have discs.

As a veteran of hundreds of climbs and decents of the Pali (with a dic equipped bike), I can wholeheartedly agree with this post.
On my disc equipped MTB bike, I routinely hit 40->45MPH on decents either town bound (Honolulu) or Kailua bound. Kailua bound is also more 'fun' as there is a 180 degree turn at the 3/4 mile point in a particularly fast part of the descent. It is also sometimes wet from rain.
If you go on an off-hour time and take your time, the ride is nice, especially using the old Pali road sections..
