Okay, Okay, you've got me! I don't even know who "Baby" is, but now that I have your attention, I do have a rather newbie question that involves my back (yes, my real back). Coming from a cycling background, I'm used to a jersey that has pockets big enough to store food and drink for the ride, perhaps some winter provisions, a spare snack or two for 10 of my best riding buddies, a spare pump, Webster's dictionary, etc...and then in preparation for my first tri I buy tri specific apparel....

I feel underdressed here. Well, I don my new tri top and head out for an official training ride. Not sure how this thing is supposed to fit, but the folks where I bought it told me to go a size smaller than I would usually, to be sure I had a snug fit in the water, just be sure it doesn't hamper the breathing they said.

Anyway, here I go in my sleeveless-leave nothing to the imagination-top, and I realize that the small of my back is exposed. Now this in itself does not bother me, I feel secure in the small of my back, though I rarely see it I assume it is nice as smalls of the back go, and I trust none are terribly offended by it's visibility. But I digress, my question is - should a tri top fit like this?

Yup. You want it tight. You want it small. You want it thin. I feel like I'm doing a dance trying to struggle out of my race tops.

I'm pretty sure thats the exact area where I'll probably get skin cancer. Who would ever think to put sun tan lotion on that crescent on the small of ones back. Damn.

Remember you don't have to train in the clothes you race in. Cycling jerseys work in the aero position just as well as tri tops.

In that case, thanks for the affirmation. I won't make a habit out of training in it, but my first race is in two weeks and I did want to know how it felt "in action" before the day arrives. Now to test it out in the pool - who knows what I'll discover next...

I bought my first 'official' tri top last year. I had the feeling that it was what a training bra would be like to wear. I had just gone to Chipotle and had a burrito when I tried it on. Not only was a little of my back showing, but my filled up gut was busting out the front of it too. HA! Don't worry about it. Just wear regular clothing for training rides.

A real man races in a banna hammock. Just don't train in one, America isn't ready yet.

America isn't ready yet.

I think I'm still in the same boat with the rest of America right now :)
