Road Bike Racing - Branchbrok Park Race Report

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Not sure who would really be interested, but since I enjoy your race reports so much, I thought I would return the favor. For those of you not in the NY/NJ area (read: Most of you), Branchbrook park is a mildly twisty five mile loop consisting of a few big chainring hills and a 180 degree turn on one end. If anyone really cares, the course can be found here. (http://results.westwoodvelo.com/library/Google%20Earth/Branchbrook%20Park%20Series.kmz)
The report can be found here (http://www.westwoodvelo.com/showthread.php?t=1200) with the WKO file therein for anyone who is interested (you should not be). :) Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend of racing.

Great work Doc!
Wow. What's impressive about your first break is not that you were able to hit 1180 watts but rather that after that initial jump you were still able to average 400 watts for a 4-minute stretch and then still be able to keep working at over 300 watts for the next 45 minutes or so.
Lots of guys can do an initial jump in the 1000 watt range but not very many can keep the gas on like that to stay away. Let's just say I wish I could do it.

Zimbo, thanks for the compliments. Though I obviously had the SRM, I really did not look at it until the break was established. I just remember 400 in the front, 250 on the back, 200 in the middle and repeat (with regards to position in the break). It was not until reviewing the file that i realized that my initial jump was so hard. I wanted to do a "soft" attack, but apparently got a little excited!
Snuff, I am a long way from the 2's - mostly because I am not sure i have any interest in being there. My work schedule would not allow me to race as many of the higher cat races (which tend to be later in the day), and around here, many of the races allow p/1/2/3 to race together, so I can usually test my legs in those races in any case. My focus tends to be on TTs and with no points for that, it may be some time before they force me into the 2's. :) Then again, if I stay as lucky as I was yesteray, maybe not.

Watts up. you cansay that again. TT zen master. Thanks for the report.
Hi,
Nice.
Isn't it fun to have the officials yelling at you when you're in a break that catches a supposedly faster group?
Happened to me once.
It'll be interesting to hear how your crit fitness carries over to TTs.

thanks for the notes
brings back great memories of Branchbrook and Park races.
... did you know Branckbrook used to have a board track in the same spot where the ice rink was?...
I'll have to take some laps down memory lane, when I'm back there again, in June.
Maybe hit some of the local crits also... would be fun
Hey, anyone have a quikie URL for race listing for NYmetro/No. NJ for June?
TIA
