Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am going camping with my GF during spring break (gotta get a break from the beach). We are going to try and get a spot in the state park there and their webpage says there is a 25 mile round trip route there, but is there any longer routes that you know about? Our anything to do in Bastrop at all for that matter?
It doesn't look like there is much going on in Bastrop, but I did the Pedal through the Pines there yesterday. You can find their routemap here: http://www.pedalthrupines.org/docs/Route2006.pdf
Inside the park the hills are short but pretty steep. where the 50 and 65 mile routes branch out on the map it is pretty flat open farmland. The roads all the way to back to where you pick up 71 were all but abandoned and 71 has a nice wide shoulder, but plenty of traffic.
I'm about to post a ride report if you want to read about it.

The roads were fine. Not super smooth in the park, but not bad. There were a few miles of unfun chip and tar out in the country, but nothing horrible.
