This subject has come up a few times. As Davis Bike Club newsletter editor I maintain a monthly web photo supplement. We just got pictures from our member Eric Norris from the Butterfield DC, including this picture of a tandem. Beautiful and unique paint job, and other unique things on this bike.

Looks like a Calfee that was painted by someone with an eye for rolling art like John Slawta of Landshark. (http://www.landsharkbicycles.com/photogal1.html)
Good grief, their helmets and Topeak Roadmorph pump are painted to match the bike!!!
Wild looking rig and really good looking team... Those who can do.
Our's are just simple fades.

I'm partial to the shadeshifter paint that comes on some Santana's.
I know there are plenty of Trek bashers around, but you can now get Project One paint jobs on tandems, they have some really cool themes:

The bike belongs to RAAM veteran Annie Beck. It is indeed a Calfee and is named 31 flavors for obvious reasons. Great looking tandem!
