BMX - deciding on what size TT?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i have searched, and didnt come up with much. but im looking at ordering a frame tomorrow, and wanted to know whats the best way to determine a good TT size, without actually having different size bikes to try? i wasnt sure you could estimate by your height or whatnot?
i know getting newbie questions can be quite annoying, with me being a moderator on another forum, but any help will definitely be appreciated.

i was think 21" would be decent. and i didnt really think i would be able to notice much in the different sizes, with me being fairly new at this.

I'd say 21" would be just dandy.
you'll be happy with a 21"

meh, I am 6' 2" 21's always feel sluggish for me. I rode a 21" barcode for a long time and it always felt kind of slow. If you ride a lot of trails its fine, but if you are more interested in street/tech stuff I would suggest going a bit shorter. I rode a 20.5 stricker for about a year and recently aquired a 20.6t autopilot. Both are very responsive, good for spins and mashing around obsticles.

5'11'' on a 20.75. It feels good, wouldn't want it any bigger though. It's alot of personal preference but I'd say 20.75 - 21 would be fine.

That 21" Sunday will be good. TT are less about how tall you are and more about preference.

yea, thats what i was thinking. ill try it out for a while, and if it does sime to be a bit much, ill just sell it and get one a little smaller. i still have to piece this bike together first. ordering bars, stem and fork tomorrow.

not 100% sure. this is the first bike ive "pieced" together. ive had a DK 6pack complete, and an old GT Vertigo, and an old Dyno back in the day haha.
im pretty sure im going with Sunday Triumph bars, since they come 28" wide. i figured id rather have them longer, and be able to cut them down, then get them too short, and be stuck with something i dont like.
as far as forks, i dont really know lol. im still looking, and learning. so im open to whatever suggestions, on any parts. i did order ODI longneck grips, and some Ody Jim C's pedals tonight.

You could go with like S&M Pitch forks, Sunday! Night 2, Odyssey Classic Dirt, or something else. Just some suggestions.

Just, no. Not many people run the ole school pitchforks anymore because they weigh a metric ton. Just get some Ody race or Ody dirts depending on if you want 3/8ths (race) or 14mm (dirt).

He probly meant Pitchfork XLT's. Chill bro.
S&M Odyssey and Sunday all make great stuff with great warranty's you'll be set for life with any of their forks/parts.

word. But I just like the Ody designs better and I'd actually rather have an Ody fork than a Sunday! even though they are very similar. But the Pitch XLT's are nice too... even though the Ody forks are less expensive and (arguably) better.

Odyssey forks are the only forks worth buying.

The new Sunday forks have that wierd cutout for peg clearance that looks bad in my opinion. It's all about the new Odyssey forks. Those directors look terrible though.

I actually like the Director fork and I would get i... but I don't know when it's coming out.

well, i ended up not ordering yet. i figured it was best to think it through a little bit more, before spending the money. i have also been looking at some Shadow Conspiracy forks. they also have a set of bars i like to. so im bouncing back and forth between the shadow forks, and the ody forks.

i love mine.
The only forks you haven't killed. :D
The silencer bars are a good idea but they need more holes even though that would take strength away. The best bet for no throttle grip is spray adhesive. I've used it on my last 2 pairs of grips and they never move. Or you can use epoxy like mude! :p

I just use some wd-40, and as little as possible to get them on. They dry completely in a couple days if I do it properly, and are still easy to get off with more wd-40.

i was about to change spray adhesive to epoxy. then when i put in the quote i realized you had it at the end
fitnah. i dont think that comment was a result of bikeguide. they would need more holes to make the grips stay on better.

Not at all. I wouldn't drill holes in anything. I was saying that because to make the grips say you'd need more on the end of the bar because that's where i get throttle the most when and if it happens. My bars are far from lite. Uncut non-xlt slams. Not light at all.

That'll be due to long chainstays and/or heavy stem, bars etc..
They are mega light. Forks are only just now as light as them
