I bought a bent just before the snow came......4 long months ago....today was the day. I have been looking for a snowfree strech of road to ride my lwb, uss bent. I found a spot. What a great ride, seemed very easy to learn. My bike is a Mikado it is a goofy bike with 120 speeds being an ebay find it was cheap at 500.00, but seems good enough for a taste. I can now see why you folks like these bikes.
Being the neophyte I am I was a little worried about balance and stuff but it was a hoot and no problems at all. I was able to ride in and out of the ice pockets on the road and still keep my balance.
I do have a little question, how do you mount the computer, with the uss its rather open in the front, an no obvious spot to mount one.
How do you get 120 speeds? Anyhow, you could consider a wrist-worn wireless computer or make a mount for the maintube somewhere. Where do the mirrors go? Most times people at MTB bullhorns for accesories.

It has a front triple, with a mid frame block with a spacer, the top cog of which supplies the rear 8 speed.
So its 3 times 5 times 8 which is 120.... it might be 3X6X8 regardless its a whole lot of gears. The crazy thing is that it shifts fine, should provide tons of entertainment while grooving along the road.

Welcome to recumbent cycling!!
I'm jealous of your triple digit gears! :D
That's one of the fun things I like about recumbents;
innocent bystander;..."that's a pretty snazzy rig! How many speeds does it have?"
you;..."a hundred and twenty!"
ib;.(either) :eek: because that's more than they imagined . OR . :mad: because they think you are mocking their knowledge of gears on a "bike". :rolleyes:
One of mine has 54 speeds & the other has 72.
Those numbers usually get a similar reaction, but 120! Man, that's sweeeet! :D
So post us a picture of your Mikado, I haven't seen one yet.

Did someone buy out and rename the Peugeot/CCM/Quetzal thing again?

Think so, the one I have is a lot more colorful but looks the same.

This was the second almost snow-free weekend for the new bike. Yet to mount the spedo but I usually hit about 50 km an hour coming down the hill from home, I assume I was going about as fast. Seemed rather unstable a little wobble at the high end, is this normal? I did a little crash on the ice but one good thing on a bent is that your close to the ground when you fall...hurt my feelings the bike is fine. The 120 speeds, made going up hill a snap, the low speed control was very good. With the snow melt there is a lot of water on the road, water up ones leg is an odd feeling at my age, where can I find a small fender for a 16 inch wheel?
