ok, actually it may or may not be considered a hybrid... i think i got a pretty good deal on it ($107, no shipping since im local), but i really dont know anything about riding mountain bikes or anything other than a single speed bmx... its been at least 10 years since i rode, the only bike i ever had was a mongoose decade (circa 1987) that lasted forever...

i had a few questions that i was hoping you guys could help me with:

1) can anyone identify that computer / speedometer?

2) it doesnt look like the bike is in 1st gear, does that matter?

3) does anyone have any suggestions for an essentially new rider who has never had a multispeed bike?

heres a pic: (more pics here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110096761794))

Congratulations on the new bike. Now please don't post pictures that large in the future. Try to get them down to around 640 pixels. Othwerwise we are all going to have to go out and buy 32" monitors. :o

yeah i didnt realize the guy had set the image size when he put them in his auction, i was kind of surprised that they were so big

anyway, i just picked the bike up and it seems pretty big... should i be able to flatfoot the ground when i am on the seat? because i can't... i rode it briefly in my parking garage, maybe 10 seconds because the tires were a bit low... kind of weird to be so high up... im not sure if that is my unfamiliarity with this kind of bike or if its just too large for me... any ideas?

you don't want to 'flatfoot the ground' on that bike...toes of one foot only! that'll get you close to proper height. the reason for this is to save your knees! too low a seat height grinds your joints into powder.

to see if it's too big for you -- when you stand flatfooted over the top tube of the bike, are the jewels still hanging free? the answer to that is your answer to the size fitting you.
