Hi everyone! I just had to post this up; I'm so happy and full of joy! First of all I broke 200 miles on my bike today, not a lot, but I bought it last month. But it's not the main reason; I did my longest ride yet. 42.5 miles in my local park (about 4.2 miles loop) with only one stop, just to refill my water bottle (which took like 2 minutes). My ass wasn't as sore as from a previous ride that was only 35 miles; I guess these things need some tome to get used too, it's my first road bike. The only thing that went wrong on my ride was that I was sooooooo bored. (I have no riding buddy) I was so lonely:( , by the time I hit 25 M I wanted to go home, but I felt like this was the day to do it and I did it! I'm looking forward to 50-mile mark; I just don't know when I'll be ready too. Promise, it won’t take long!:D

Good riding!

You rode ten times around a 4.2 mile loop? No wonder you were bored. Get some good street maps of your area and try to map out a route. If busy roads worry you, avoid them. Long rides are not boring if you have things to look at, to hear, to smell...

You can drive a route you map before taking your bike on it. That way, you will know what to expect about traffic, road conditions, and hills.

Yes, like Prosody said, find another route. Cycling is made for people to go to new places. Buy a map, find a riding partner, whatever. Get out there and do something different.

Also, your bottom should get used to riding for a longer time period. Especially until you break in that new saddle.

yeah... actually a good way to find a new route is to get "lost"..... makes every new route turn into a bona fide adventure!

Chuvak.. Are you near New York City.. IF in the city, take the Long Island Train out to Montauk and do some riding there. Enjoy the scenery.

this is good advice. i just rode the montauk century this sunday and it was beautiful out there! nice country roads, lakes, vineyards. pretty flat though, so if you're looking for hills it may not be the best, but i just couldn't get over how nice it is out there. :)

The problem with doing a circuit is that it's like riding a trainer - it's too easy to call it a day. When you go out into the world, the sheer fact that you HAVE to get back to somewhere keeps you going. And thus, it's mentally more stimulating.

Anyway, congrats on the achievement.

Yeah just go out one day and point your bike in some random direction and ride 15-20mi out and then ride back... thats pretty much how I have found all my routes is just randomly trying something different. Does help to have a good map with you though.

LOL! This is sooooo true. I never get to ride during the week so all I do is hit the trainer when I get home from work. Tomorrow, I'm up at 04:30 for a real ride for the very reason that after 25 miles out, there is no just "getting off" and grabbing a Stella from the fridge :D
