Hello Everyone,
It was pretty rainy today, but it finally cleared up enough for me to take a 14 mile daily. I was wanting to do a 40, but the rain said no. On the way out to the trail, my son said, "Daddy, I thought we wre going to ride around the neighborhood today." His sad little face broke my heart, and I told him to get his bike and lets go. I got the MTB, and off we went. We rode around the neighborhood for five miles. He was so proud of himself for not falling down, and for taking some of the big hills. He even told me that he did not need gears on his bike, he wanted to keep the one he had. We rode for about an hour, and went back home. I had a great ride today, because of him. - Ted

Ted,

Must be "Ride with Kids" day :) Yesterday my 15 year old stepdaughter wanted to go ride with Donna and me so we put one of the road bikes in the Xterra, one road bike on the back and her MTB and off we went. We went for a relatively short ride but it was fun.

She tried a couple of accelerations on me but I was able to easily hang with her :)

I wish my kids were interested in riding. It would be nice to have someone to accompany me on rides occasionally.

I took both the kids to the local park yesterday.

Emily is 6 and is a good rider.

James is 4 and just off trainer wheels. He's still trying to get used to pedalling and steering at the same time but he's doing fine.

The main problem was that Emily just wanted to keep instructing and encouraging James. I think she sometimes thinks that she's his mother. (Which would do my darling wife out of a job.) It's lovely to have kids who adore each other so much but poor James didn't know who to listen to.

I'm kinda mad at my brother-in-law. He bought one of those Power Wheels battery operated trucks for my son (now three). When we go out and play, he'll ride his bike for a few minutes, but then wants to use the Truck. It's been real hard trying to get him into pedaling vs. just pressing a gas (electric) pedal and cruising around. I hope this isn't foreshadowing future events!

Way to go, Ted! The world needs more dads like you (and moms, too)!

Seems like lots of people don't realize what's really important in this life, and the whole world suffers for each child that grows up without love. Yours is growing up with a great advantage!

Thanks a lot for the compliment. My time with him is worth more than any other time that I have. We are very strict parents, but my wife and I constantly vie for his attention. We are always together. Check my web page, I have a picture of him, it is about 3 years old. He is 8 now. Best - Ted

I have been taking my 9 yo son mountain biking for years. He started when he was 6yo, and managed a 17km ride then. Now I think he has done around 30km, offroad with steep, granny gear hillclimbs. I took him up the big hill in the centre of town yesterday, 3km steep bitumen climb and he made it without stopping. I have mates that have been riding this hill for over a month, twice a week that can barely do that, and nowhere near as fast!

if any of my kids catch me and say something like...daddy, can you watch cartoons with me then i have to stay and watch. it comes down to, will i become a better rider if i ride today vs. doing something priceless with my children that will make me a better human being. no contest.
