Southern California - Crash Fest Criteriums -deluge, Costa Mesa

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Every race was delayed AND shortened by 15 min because somehow IDIOTS WERE THINKING THAT THEY CAN SPRINT FOR TOP 3 from the middle of the pack on the last lat 200 away from the finish!
I just dont get it why these idiots sprint when top5 already crossed the line? self vindcation or pure stupidity?

Racing crit is tough. You just have to face the fact that you just might get taken out by somebody. Racing with other adrenalized speed demons gives me the thrills, thats why I do it.

in cat 30+ 3/4 two guys are sprinting from the middle of the back barely touching shoulders, then they fall down on each other ( everything 10 feet away from me in "SLO MO" ) then some other guy hit the brakes, but cant slow down and rider over this guys neck with his front wheel, then third guy hits him again does endo (with pedals still clipped in) and lands on them with his back.
they restarted the race for 3 laps because of that... it was either suffer in the front 5-6 riders or wait till finish and take chances in the group carnage..
Darn, did I miss this race one mile away from me??? Was this the second one there in only a month or something different?

Dude, that was almost painful to read. You might want to pick this up from Amazon.com

Check out the crash from the Master's 40+IV/Vs.
The last two rows of pics show it unfold. I was right next to it in the fire lane and saw it happen, it was ugly for sure. The guy who caused it, crashed and then gets up and sprints off the course with riders still going by him. He tumbled onto the grass in front of me and was looking a little stressed. But who wouldn't be.

the one i'm talking about was 30+ 3/4
the 40+ 4/5 HAD ITS OWN SHARE of crashes right on the sprint line

I ride with the guy in the Edge kit, on some of our morning rides. I heard this morning, that he thinks he fractured his collarbone (I wouldn't doubt it), too bad, he's a good guy.
What's with all the crit carnage this season? Is it still just the typical early season nonsense, or have we been injected with a nasty dose of dangerous riders? I wish we had some crit courses that would help split up the fields a bit more, I like racing crits, but I'm in no hurry to get out there this season. I might go up to Ojai for the Garrett Lemire on 4/01, but I'll pass on Dominguez and Costa Mesa for now.

That restart was not good for me. I came out of turn three on the last lap in the top ten.
The second time around I was nowhere. :-(

the only way to do it is to either increase time or difficulty of the course, anyone can hang in for 30 min dash to the line..
