disc brake pads brands?

Ive done a search on the forum but no real good info.

Its time to change brake pads on avid BB7 equipped C'dale.
I am trying to know if some brands of pads are better than other, looked on ebay and there is a couple of brands, some organic, some semi-metallic, some metallic.
should I just stick with avid replacement pads?

what are the differences in braking between brands and pad materials?

On the organic V metallic pads. The organic pads will be a softer pad to give good braking in the wet but they can overheat and cause brake fade. The more metallic content in the pad- the less overheating you will get- but the more pressure they will require on the lever to get working. I use Hope Brakes and they do an organic and a "Sintered" pad (Metallic content) I have only used the sintered pads and never found a problem with overheating- lack of pressure or Riding in the wet.

If you have been happy with the original fitment pads- then I would stay with them but If you want a longer lasting pad- or better wet braking- Look around.

The more metallic content in the pad - the less problematic is the heat for the brake pad.

But usually, the more metallic content - the more heat needs to be dissipated by the brake system (discs/caliper/fluid/...). That's why some manufacturers don't certify fully metallic brake pads for Downhill racing. (e.g. http://www.ebcbrakes.com/MountainBike.html )

For road use I'd stick with Avid's stock pads. You can find them for under $17 at AirBomb and other places.
