Anyone know of any good rides around the Houston area?

or any good routes that'll hit a decent number of hills or at least give some sort of climbing training?

or any good campsites in the area that have decent enough roads near them to go on a rides from camp on a road bike?

I don't know how close to Houston you want, but I just did a nice ride in Bastrop. There are the biggest hills I've seen in East Texas. There's camping. It's nice. From the park website:
Biking - Whether you are a beginner or an expert rider, you will find what you are looking for on Park Road 1C between Bastrop and Buescher State Parks. Enjoy the 12 mile scenic ride through the Lost Pines of East Central Texas. This roller coaster ride is part of the MS-150 (famed bike race from Houston to Austin.). The scenery is unmatched. Call the park for more information.

i looked at their website. looks like a nice place. wouldn't be bad to take off a week and spend half of it in the park and then go visit austin for a couple of days.

Bastrop park is a fun ride. Roller coaster is a good term for it. I ride the MS150 most years and the park is definitely the highlight of day two.
