Back to the Beach - Part 2
Saturday April 7th 2007

There will be 3 starts for this ride...
For those of you needing a century, you can start from the Rose Bowl (this should be a fairly easy century)
For those in the OC or South Bay there will be a group starting in Huntinton Beach and riding up SGRT to meet us.
For everyone else we will start from Encanto Park in Duarte

This is a loop ride...a bit different than the standard SGRT ride - There will be route slips provided!!!
We will ride down SGRT to Whittier Narrows and cross over to the Rio Hondo/Lario trail down to Long Beach.
Then from LB ride over to Seal Beach and take the SGRT back to Encanto Park
This would be approx 80 miles.
Could be another increase to your Personal Best on this route!!!

Century ride will be approx 114 miles

There will possibly be Sag at Seal Beach provided by Luwin or Luwin's lovely wife and daughter! More details as they are available!

I will have water for the century riders and coastal riders to refill at Encanto!

Rules:((I hate this)
If you don't have or carry a cell phone, you CANNOT ride alone! You must stay with someone who has a phone!
You must wear a helmet (except Sunny of course who just won't)
You must have a good time - no exceptions!
Magicant needs bigger speakers for the karoke machine.

I hope everyone can make this ride!

What time are you planning to start this one Herb? I'm on a home by noon schedule on weekends, so I might be able to make it if you start from Encanto on the earlier side.

Not sure yet...but I think since the weather will be warmer....9 is too late...but it also depends on the century riders and how early they want to start..
If they start at 6:30 then we should be able to leave at 8ish
or push another 1/2 hr, but I would go too much later that 8:30...
that would put us down there in 2.5 hrs...well 1.5 for Brandy!
ME, Magicant, Fixer??? what do you think?

Back to the Beach - Part 2
Saturday April 7th 2007

There will be 2 starts for this ride...
For those of you needing a century, you can start from the Rose Bowl and meet the rest of us
at Encanto Park in Duarte (this should be a fairly easy century)

I just wanted this to get up so everyone could book the dates!!
More details as we go...
But we might do something different this time...
Possibly ride down to Whittier Narrows and corss over to the Rio Hondo/Lario trail down to Long Beach.
Then from LB ride over to Seal Beach and take the SGRT back to Encanto Park
If anyone has routeslipped this or ridden it and has info on mileage, I would greatly appreciate it.

At this time, there is no sag, but going thru LB gives us many more options than at Seal Beach.

Rules:(I hate this)
If you dont have or carry a cell phone, you CANNOT ride alone! You must stay with someone who has a phone!
You must wear a helmet (except Sonny of course who just won't)

According to my ride log it is 69 miles from the base of the Santa Fe dam round trip; add 12 miles for to and from Encanto Park to the base of the dam, for a total of 81 miles. That's 10 miles more than Saturday. I should be able to provide a map and/or route slip for anyone that wants one.

I'll go.

I'd definitely like to do this with the Rose Bowl option and I'd be happy to start early to accommodate an 8am Encanto meet/departure.

Thanks Gene....so its a good 80 miles...
We need the century riders to weigh in if that is going to be too much??
We can always just do SGRT as we did on Saturday...

With the route change, it'll actually be about 112 miles from the Rose Bowl (it was 104 last Saturday, plus the added miles from LB to SB). Just a heads up to anyone who wants to add that leg onto it.

6:30 should be fine (as long as we're ROLLING by 6:30 and not busy doing our makeup or anthing  )

I have you down as Coastal Start from HB

What timedo you think you will leave...its 35 miles from Seal Beach to Encanto Park...
However...we can meet you anywhere between Encanto Park and 4 corners in Whittier Narrows
That is a 15 mile ride so it might help your time...but you would have no potty break (short of a nature walk for a least a bit...but there are parks onthe way up so you could stop there)....I think some of us could carry some extra water for ya...actually there are a few people I would like to weigh down so I could keep up...

A route slip is probably going to be helpful to anyone who has not ridden thru Whittier Narrows, as well as how get from LB to SGRT

Also, what about parks for rest stops down Rio Hondo and Lario?? That will be important as well!

I asked Gina if she'd like to do it on the tandem this time. She said she'd rather do the singles if she can get into shape!

I'm cool either way although the tandem maybe a lil tricky with all them tight turns on the SG!

More than likely singles.

Boy, . . . if I wasn't doing Wildflower, I'd be there.:( That's such a great area.

Ya know, there is the Eldorado Dual out of Panguitch in August I think, preceded by a 200K brevet in June which uses the same route, minus a small extension, thru Bryce and up thru the Escalante.

No, don't worry about it. I did the same route a week ago Sunday and made a pit stop at the park I was thinking of. It shows up nicely on the track data so I can mark it. It's at 30 miles into the ride from Encanto on the lower Rio Hondo, so it should work out good. Thanks though.:)
