my Fox rear shock (the one with the lockout) is over 1 year old now with a lot of use: about 6000km (4000mi) and 90,000 meters vertical.
and the thinner shiny black part where the shock slides when it compresses is turning kid of a grey color which the Fox service guy (and the Specialized service guy too) said means it's not getting oiled right and i need to service it, and it's likely to be damaged or wear out soon.
anyway, a few weeks ago at the Bike Festival in Italy when i picked up new spacers for the rear shock (2nd time replaced in 1 year!) the Fox mechanic guy tells me "oh, you should service your shock and it's really easy to do... you just take apart this, and do this, and undo this, and replace this, etc." oh course he does this every day as his job. unfortunately, i was more concerned about my race and getting my bike ready than learning how to service my shock, and didn't really pay attention...
does anyone know what the "basic service" for the Fox is and what i have to buy: new seals? new oil?
is it something i should learn to do myself or should i just pay my shop to do it? (i.e. do i need any special tools or whatever)
and likewise: i haven't done any service of my Fox Float RL front fork. should i be getting it serviced too?
