Mountain Biking - Uh-oh, now I've gone and done it...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A little background...

I am a roadie.
I trashed my bike in a car wreck 3 weeks ago and have not got a replacement yet.
I have not "thrown a leg over" since 4/24.
I AM getting desperate, so desperate, in fact, that while I was visiting my sister's farm this weekend, I spied a dusty, little used "Next" x-mart MTB sitting in a corner of the barn. It had only been ridden once, ever. Needless to say, the tires were flat. I spent a couple hours total this weekend cruising around the farm, and up and down the double-track trail behind her property.

I never really understood the attraction of MTBing until this weekend. It was pretty cool. I'm sure, that with a decent bike I'd actually LOVE it. I may actually consider picking up a used HT MTB to complement my new road bike when I get one. Hmmmm...

This is what I always wonder about. Why stick with one or the other when you can do both?:D

I love my road bike and spend 90% of my time on it - but I wouldn't be without my MTB.

Yeah, it's good to be able to have a bit of variety.
Road bikes are cool for fast riding and getting fit.
Mountain bikes are cool for kicking up dirt on weekend getaways .. and casual rides around the river with the girlfriend.

Soon, you will be rabidly addicted like me. I go through withdrawels if I don't get some trail riding in at least once a week.

How can you get by with just one type of bike? I enjoy my bikes alot, only hard part is which to ride some days. Last friday was a beautiful day out, I debated in the morning which to do ride my mountain bike up the trails, or ride my roadie down to the beach. Ended up riding my MTB since I only get to ride it about once a week.

I have both, not including a tandemn (an old Schwinn for leisure rides) and also a BMX bike.

It's nice to have a variety of bikes to choose from depending on your mood.

However, my mountain bike is my favorite!

Probably a Banshee Scream or Cove G-spot. 4 bar, burly and build to take punishment. :)

I have been eyeing the SC Builit but it is a really popular bike so I don't think so :)

In last year's Seattle to Portland ride, one guy did it on a unicycle. There are also local unicycle MTBers who regularly kick-ass on the trails around here. I've even seen one on the teeters... oh wait... I guess that does qualify as circus activity. :D

Chris Holmes is one of the best uni guys

Imagine the balance. Almost puts trials riders to shame...:)

Wow, that is odd. I tired riding one of those bikes and I couldn't even sit on it... I leaned up against a poll and everything, but there was no way I could peddle. PRoPS.

I had to learn to ride one because we sell them. " Hey, these unicycles are great, you should get one. What me ride one, no way, guy could get hurt doing that."
I learned riding around the aisle that loops the store, only about a three foot margin of error.
Chris Holmes is amazing, he said he only gets off on purpose about 20% of the time.

I would love to play on one. Just to build up my 'shore' skills. :)...
