Classic & Vintage - ID These Campy items?

Rear derailleur, front derailleur, braze-on downtube shifters, and a single clamp-on downtube shifter. Geez:rolleyes:

Front der - post 1978 Nuovo record. Has wrong cable clamp hardware.

Shifters - late 70's/early 80's Record.

Single shifter for TT or city bike. Gran Sport or Valentino, 60's 70's ?

Rear der - I don't go that late. Triomphe or Victory maybe?

The rear does look like a Triompe or Victory. The shifter with the downtube holder looks like a Valentino. Regular shifter looks like a nuovo. The derailleurs look pretty banged up.

They're certainly far from mint, but not damaged in any functional way.

the cable hardware is wrong, but this front derailleur looks post '67 (no cable stop) but pre '72 (no circlip)

The single shifter is a 50s on Gran Sport, Record or Nuovo Record, I'd say earlier due to original screw rather than D ring. The Valentin's clamps were much cruder, and not chrome. Note the raised lettering vs. the recessed lettering in the double shiftlevers. We used the single levers back in the 70s to setup our bikes as 5-speeds at the start of spring; did all our early rides with a 45 tooth front to get the spin back in our pedaling.

Having scraped a metric mile of crap from the rear derailleur that goes with that single shifter, I can tell you that it's Valentino. I don't know if that means the shifter is too........

Ah, could be. The housing implies older to me too, but maybe that's how you do it in the old country. BTW, the single shifter was used with the rod front deraillers too.

And I have a question for you: What sort of light and mount goes on the fork braze on and where can I get one? I have an old bike with that, too ugly to leave unused!

the early valentino bits weren't different from record shifters but for the screws.. some were identical
(some early record shifters also lacked d-rings, before they became standard)..
i'd say this one is from after '63 since it's with the derailleur...
to date to the 50s it would need to have the open 'c'

In another thread, Cudak888 identified a rear derailleur I have that is nearly identical as a 990 or 980. As I've been looking for a replacement (bent cage) I've seen many 980s that look like that, but no 990s. I also came across some information somewhere stating that some of the late Victory RDs had the name in script rather than the shield logo.

And a lamp either like this, or a type with a kinda [ shaped bracket on the back that slots on. I have one bracket which I'm sending to USAZorro, when I finally get his hub ready for shipping, but I think I have another. There's approx zero chrome left on either though. Thanks, I just picked up a Victory or Triomphe (see, I have the same trouble!) on eBay for $1 (before the padded shipping cost that is). I'll see how that works.

Rear derailleur is 980 or 990, FD is first generation (pre 1972 Nuovo record, is the arm chromed brass or alloy? It almost looks like someone swapped an earlier record arm on to a first gen NR front derailleur.. The set of shifters is Super record and the single is sport/valentino I believe.

It would appear that nobody on UK eBay wants 980's. The 3 that are currently found by the "completed auctions" search didn't sell, albeit at rather high starting prices (£10, £16, £27). I think I might keep this one for my son's bike.

I've seen them all, multiple times. Unfortunately shipping from the UK kills it for me, since they are not terribly valuable to begin with. I like the NOS £27 job, but that's a ridiculous price!

Well, it's not period for Little Sammy's Holdsworth, but it'll shift a lot better than the Velox I was gonna put on there. Definitely a better bet than flogging it for £2.

The 980's don't seem to have any value in the US, either. I have one myself but it's not even worth selling based on past ebay auctions.

At ten years old, my son has decided that his bike should be period-correct, and so he wants to use the Velox derailleur rather than the 980! A purist at ten - who'da thunkit.
