I am interested in getting a trailer bike to pick up my daughter from school (about 3 miles ride). She cannot ride up the slopes in our area by herself so I thought a trailer bike would work well.

My question is: can I ride the thing to the school by myself? or does it require the child to always be in the back to balance the trailer?

It's fine without a passenger. It bounces a little if the road is really bumpy, but other than that, you can forget about it even being there, until you go up a hill.

That's a perfect use for a trailer bike. The child, in my experience, has a negative efect on balance, and the thing is far more stable when empty. Pulling an empty trailer bike is MUCH easier than pulling an empty trailer.
