Do you talk like most of the native people in your community? Or do you sound different, due to your being a transplant (or otherwise)?
How would you describe your accent?

When I am in the states it is hard for people to know where I am originally from. That is because I grew up in Western NY but my parents are from the midwest.

I have NO accent. :D
Ok, I do. I guess I mostly fit in with my immediate neighbors here in upstate NY, but not nearly as pronounced an "accent" as might be typical.
I had a pretty heavy Boston accent as a kid, but the schools here considered it a speech defect and therapied it out of me.
I think I have a fairly standard California accent which is pretty close to the Network Anchor accent.
[edit]
That is, in English.
My Spanish accent is Pocho. When my wife and I were in Barcelona a few years ago we were doing our best to speak only Spanish. After we ordered lunch in one cafe, the waiter asked us "?De que parte de California son ustedes?"
Are we limited to the English language here, or?
Anyway, my Swedish accent is a bit odd down here.

I have an eastern european accent
What origin? One of my co-workers is fresh off the boat from Poland. Her accent has some interesting subtleties that I never would have picked up on if I wasn't exposed to it on a daily basis. I actually think it's a very interesting accent, but then again I can't think of many that I *don't* like.
Well, except maybe someone with a nasally voice and a Manchester accent. My ears! My eaaarrrss!!!

Between living in Tn, Va (three different and distinct regions as well), and NC, and my habit of enunciating (overcompensating for speech problems growing up), I have a non-accent.
However, I have been told I have an almost "English" accent, which is odd because my family has been here in the US since before the Civil War, if not longer. What's funny is that my wife has a distinct southern drawl, but I've lived most of my life further south than she. :)

Although I've lived in Tennessee about 80% of my life, I've never considered myself to have (or been accused of having) much of an East Tennessee accent.
I'm not an expert in analyzing accents (particularly my own) but I think I sound more like someone from the Middle Atlantic region (PA-VA). I lived on the outskirts of that area until I was five, so perhaps that got imprinted on me when I was learning to speak? Moreover, both my parents are from the northlands, so I didn't have a southern influence during my formative years.
Apparently, those years may have been more significant in determining my accent that the nearly 30 since I moved here.

I have a slight scottish accent..Are you from (or did you live in) Scotland? If so, how long ago?
Somewhere between a south Georgia, Jimmy Carter, and the clipped Athens, GA accent.
There are more variations of the southern accent than I know and Hollywood hasn't gotten one right yet.

It's PEA-can not pa-CON. There is a "L" in walk--wok is for cooking asian food. If one is poor (the poo rhymes with moo) you have no money, to pour (pronounced like pore) it to move a liquid from a container using gravity. It's Veye-dale-ya onion, not Va-dal-yah onion.
Here's a neat little quiz to help you determine what kind of American accent you have:

It was accurate for me, put me right near Philly (a couple hours away).

Dead wrong for me. Put me under the heading "The West" and ranked "Northeast" the lowest.
Which is amusing, because I've never even been to the American West, and I've lived in the Northeast all my life.

Pretty much a typical midwestern non-accent. Though I've disturbingly developed a drawl that creaps in on some words when I'm either exhausted or distracted.
I've never said "y'all" except to make fun of people who say "y'all" usually followed by a hearty "hee-yuk."

The test missed me as well, says I'm from the Midlands, although the south was top on the bar graph.

Tried the test. English is, of course, not my native language, but I'm very aware of accents and how I speak.
This is my result:

Makes sense, since I grew up in Indiana.

Anyway, my Swedish accent is a bit odd down here.
Heh. Having grown up in Iowa, I have no _accent_ in English. But having studied Danish, my English has picked up a bit of the sing-song Scandinavian style and rhythm. It's freakish.

I've lived in Maine all my life but don't speak any of the accents listed in the quiz.
There is a "Maine Accent" which is more like a dialect. It is actually spoken by some people in Eastern and Northern Maine. This is the accent you might hear from Maine humorists. I don't speak that way and never say, "Ayuh" in my vocabulary.

I have a disturbing typical Jersey/NY accent. Some words come out like I'm from Boston though.
And no, NO ONE says "Joisey", and if you think so, watch a little less of the late night talk shows or go jump off a bridge.

According to the quiz I belong in Philly. I don't think I or most people in OKC or Tulsa have much of an accent. People here come from all over the place, it seems like there are very few native Oklahomans. So you grow up with, go to school with and later work with people with all sorts of accents. You pick a little of each up and they meld. Now get out of town a few miles and it's a whole different story in hickville.
