I apologize if this is being covered in another thread. Is anyone going to ride in Tour de Sewer this year? I was thinking about it, but the web page isn't all that great, and I cant tell if it will be a fun ride or not. Anybody thats gone on this ride in the years past care to share their opinions, and what the route is.

Thanks.

I did it last year with a few buddies...ok ride, would not bother doing it alone. Some of us were going to do it again, but most just didn't bother signing up and I have other plans for the day.

I've not done it personally, but I've been dissuaded from doing it by those I know who have. They say it is pretty much what you'd expect from ugly urban/industrial riding and in heavily trafficked areas (parts of the route). Hope that helps...:)

Not much help here but yeah, I did it years back, probably 10 at least. Like Merider said, pretty much what you'd expect from the area, river channels, surface streets and traffic, nothing much to rave about.

I honestly do not recall much about it, but since it is one of the few organized rides I don't remember in detail, that say's something I think.

That said, I WILL be doing it at the request of a friend who only gets out a couple times a year. I'm hoping it is not a big group of newbies swerving like mad, trying to race on the river trail - in other words, accidents waiting to happen.

As for the route, all I recall is it went over Turnbull Canyon.

Sorry, I suck at helping :D

I did this about 10 years ago, the name of the ride says it all. Save your money and just do one of the Bike Forums rides.

I've 'heard', though I have no independent confirmation, that the 'sewer' has been cleaned up and it's a nicer ride now. Not that I'm encouraging or not encouraging anyone to do or not do this ride, I'm just passing along some 2nd hand info...

It is the day of the Jax to Jax ride, which is for a good cause and I know a lot of BFers are joining in on that.

I did the ride in 2004. The parts along the Rio Honda and the SGRT are pretty ho hum, but the route up Turnbull Canyon and later in the hills above Whittier is beautiful. The barbeque chicken lunch (included in the price) was really good.

I'll be doing it this year as it's a Saturday off of work before I leave for Oklahoma for three weeks  .

I rode it a few years ago and the raffle besides the lunch being more food than I could eat after a ride, the raffle seemed to go on forever. They gave alot away. No I didn't win.

How difficult are the climbs?

Not bad, if you happen to be OCRoady, Pico or Extort...however, if you happen to be me, then it wasn't easy, but not terribly long.
