I realize that this ride is a few months away, but given it's remote location, I thought I'd get an interest thread going (that and someone asked me if I would). So, here is the link: http://www.planetultra.com/easternsierra/index.html

It's on June 2nd and I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I'm going to do it. Anyone else considering this double??

It would be awesome to get a big, healthy group of BFers up there! :D

George (vireo) and I are definitely planning to be there. :)

Although doubles are far beyond my short attention span, I was coerced into doing this one. Actually, it didn't take much coersion, as I have been wanting to get up to that area for a long time. I know a handful of SFVBC types who are planning on it, as well -- Keith and Sarah, Mario, Nancy and Bruce (his injury may alter those plans). A few others, I think.

edit: just registered. :)

I had planned to do this ride this year, but now will have to wait until next year. I'll be riding the Lake Tahoe century the next day with my wife.

If you want to get in some climbing in the Sierras, you can join me for a Death Ride preview on Friday, June 1. I'll be climbing Monitor pass about 2 hours north.

I'll be there, it sounds like fun and it's one of the ones i've never done. I've already made motel reservations in Bishop.

I've done it for the last two years, and it is a beautiful ride with plenty of climbing. This year, I don't know. Have to see how I feel when it gets a bit closer. I sure haven't been doing enough climbing so far this year, plus I have to lose about 15 lb. plus all the usual excuses!

Best Regs,

I just realized something. I'm doing Davis 5/19, and two weeks later is Eastern Sierra. Now I'm having second thoughts about Eastern Sierra ... two week recovery, for a 10,000 foot double century ... then doing Grand Tour several weeks after that ... decisions decisions ....

Someone slap me on the side of the head silly ...

I was talking with a rider (and friend) on Sunday, and I may go up and ride 100 that weekend in lieu of the double. Haven't 100% decided yet, but apparently there will be other riders up there seeking just 100 miles in that gorgeous scenery. That may do for me as well. :D

You're funny, Nygirl...;) But I'm miled out at present and 100 up there sounds delish to me. Ron, there isn't an option I don't think. It would be a group doing their own unorganized 100. I love the beauty there and have never had an opportunity to ride those roads, but I'm just not in the mood to do another double at present, so toying with the idea of 100 is appealing. Plus, I could still be there to greet the double riders as they cross the finish line. Win-win...:D

Ah, ok. At this point, the only I'm going to do this is if someone persuades me to ... I don't know if I'll be able to do Davis and Eastern Sierra, separated by two weeks.

Okay, well let me talk to my "friend" (Bob...oops, that slipped) and I'll let you know if it materializes. In the meantime, since this is the DOUBLE thread, I'll get the heck out. I'll start a new thread if there is a true contingent planning a 100 miler the same day. :D

I'm always down for a win-win type of situation. I was going to Tahoe that weekend but there is NO guarantee I will be able to secure a registration and they are very strict I hear............soooooooooo I'm in for this.......I only made it up to Mammoth once this winter to snowboard and I miss it... :o

M.E.,

The Heartbreak 100 starts at the truck stop at Lebec which is about 50 miles into the Double Century, then they follow the same route, the finish for the 100 is the last checkpoint for the 200. If a group was to do an unorganized ride, I would recommend a SAG person, there is very little in the way of stores or places to eat. I riding a shortened version this weekend with some friends, and the one person who lives up there is hiding ice chest with water at two points so that we will have sufficient hydration.

nevermind, I was reading VanceMacs comments about the Heartbreak 100 and assumed thats what you were all talking about.

If you go to this link: http://75.126.135.187/information.php?info_id=8&osCsid=662f0e6cbd44196f71dfa1d99f09fc23

This is a copy of the map used for the Fall High Sierra century. The route basically starts @ Mammoth, instead of Bishop. You don't have to climb Sherwin Grade.

Eastern Sierra

Don't have that one, if you follow the link above, you have the route for Eastern Sierra Fall century. A lot of the route is the same as the double.
