Anyone know if there's a good bike shop in the area up there? I just found one of the rings on my rear cassette is a little bent (which explains why the chain was jumping!) I can ride in the other rings no problem, so I'll probably just go as is, but if I have time when I get up there tomorrow, I might have them put on a new cassette.

I've got tools, no worries. I can do switch it if the mechanics are busy (or I may just do it anyway). I found this thing called the internet, it tells me there's a shop 3 blocks from my hotel in Buellton. Thanks for the offer!
I'm riding with the TnT folks, so when you pass me say hi!

Bike shop is in the shopping center. It's smallish but can probably help out.
Have fun everyone!

The bike shop is Dr J's and is owned by a guy named Corey. Corey and his staff are quite good and will be able to handle whatever issue there might be.

Hopefully they'll have the cassette in stock. Worse comes to worse, I'll ride the one I have. It only keeps me from using the bent ring and the one next to it.

You know you are right. I was so busy reading about the places your wrote about online and trying to map them out I forgot to even say thank you. I apologize because your suggestions were very helpful. I had to keep pulling up my map to even see where Santa Ynez, Buellton and Lompoc were in perspective to the registration hotel. So a HUGE THANK YOU.....for your time and effort. I have already printed out your reviews for the rest of the group.

Thank you VERY much for your reviews. When I read the post, I was at work and meant to send a thank you when I got home but forgot. SORRY!!
Thanks again for the efforts you put in for the restaurant reviews...very nice :)

Thanks nygirl. Like I said, if you guys need any help with directions, I'm here.
P.S. Mother Hubbard's or Ellen's Pancakes in Buellton is da bomb for breakfast. Have fun all! I'm off to ride the first leg of your big ride tomorrow.

Hey Everyone!
I am not sure if I will be making dinner or not, we probably won't get into town till 6:30 or so to register (depending on traffic!) We will probably leave Thousand Oaks around 4:30 pm.
Is the morning plan to still meet @ 6:30 am at the start line??

Karen we hadnt plan to even have dinner until after we registered, it opens at 6 so we will keep you posted via telephone if we dont see you at registration. And 6:30 at the start line is correct.

lucky dog :) Come over to the hotel around 6 so we can meet you and if you can tolerate us -- even have dinner with us. So we can all jump you if the review isn't on point. Just kidding but come over. I will PM you. Later gotta hit the road at some point...what a procrastinator I am :o

Hmmm...good, not too sure about that, however Dr J's Bike Shop is located in Buellton. From the Northbound 101 exit, make a right, then another right at your first opportunity (40 yards). It will be on the right side in the small strip mall...right next to Aru Sushi! yum
Best bet would be Hazard's in Santa Barbara, it's on the way and practically on the beach. Great mechanics there.

Thanks for the invite nygirl, unfortunately I have dinner plans in Santa Barbara. Which hotel are you guys staying at? Oh, don't forget to stay clear of Patrick...don't say i didn't warn you!!! (He's actually really nice, just a tad full of himself).

I got up here early and got the new cassette installed no problem. Stopped at a couple of wineries and loaded up on some Pinot's. About to sack out for an hour before a warmup ride. It's frickin gorgeous around here.

ronjon, if you're a fan of pinot (as I am) please check out the Foley vineyard on the 246. Go through Buellton towards Lompoc, it's on the right about 7 miles up. One of the best Pinot's around. I'm a member at Sunstone, Gainey, Lincourt, and Foley. All really good wines. If you're going for a ride, don't miss out on Ballard Canyon. You can catch it off the 246 in Buellton, ride to Los Olivos and then come back on Alamo Pintado to Solvang (It's the route where most of the Amgen Time Trial took place). One of my favorite rides and it's only about 15 miles depending on where you start.
I was out earlier today...a lot of bikers out!!!
P.S. Did you get your bike fixed at Dr J's? Corey is a stand up guy but they really screwed up my bike not once, but 3 times. I think the wrench they had working there at the time was new.

Boy, I am envious of you living in Buellton. I love cycling there. Nothing else to add, just wanted to mention that <grin>

Thanks for the tips G, I do indeed love a good Pinot. I stopped at Rusack and Alma Rosa today. Alma Rosa wines are made by the guy who, as my friend says, "made wines for Sanford when they were good". I'm pretty sure I get Foley from the Woodland Hills wine store , if it's the one i'm thinking of, it's definitely good.
I did get fixed up and Dr J's. All I did was swap out a cassette, so they couldn't really bungle that. I didn't get the guys name, but he was very friendly and had me out of there in 10 minutes. Of course, I walked in as soon as he opened, so no one else was there.

I will say this, it's nice to ride right out of your driveway and instantly be in the country. That's one thing I don't miss about living in Santa Barbara! It's funny in a way...cycling has really helped put this area on the map.
Ronjon, Rusack is an awesome wine... I'm a big fan of their Chardonay when I do drink whites. Oddly, I have totally missed Alma Rosa, is that on Alamo Pintado??? When Summer hits we usually rent a limo with a group of friends and hit as many wineries as possible. Oh how I do love wine (beer too...LOL).
Get off the internet and go ride Ballard Canyon!!!
BTW, I have to miss out on this year's event, however next year I'd love to meet all of you. One stipulation though, we're going to Mattei's tavern!!! I can't have my wife anywhere near Patrick!!!!

Great ride. No rain, sleet, hail or snow. In fact, it was hot and windy. No worries though, first century completed, ride report coming later. Off to bed, centuries are looong....

This IS Dr. J. I think you're the guy who brought in your handlebars to get switched. Yes it was my mechanic's first time working on those type of bars molded carbon bars (think we were uncertain over your cable length - some like "Race cut" others prefer longer) But we always stand by our work. Sorry it wasn't setup the way you liked it. Bruce does great work at Hazard's. I hope you keep us in mind in the future. And please if you do have issues with our service, bring it to my attention and we will see what we can do to make it better. Our door is always open. Bring your bike in any time, and I personally we'll tune-it up my self at NO CHARGE. Good riddins.
