Just bought a trek 600 off the big ebay to build up for my girlfriend. Good investment? Can anyone give me a little info on the bike? (first C&V post!)

For $140 shipped, if it is in reasonable shape (no bends or dings) it definitely seems like a resonable deal for a 531 frame... and the crank seems worthy of the bike if it isn't in too bad of a condition.
It should build up into a nice road bike.
I think you got a great deal. I ride my 83' trek 600 every day---one of the best bikes I've owned.

Check out www.vintagetrek.com. The serial # is on the bottom bracket and you can use it to identify all of the frames particular info. I too ride a vintage Trek and love it.
Thats an interesting bike, decals look like 1985 (downtube said only trek) and
model number only silkscreened to the black vinyl chainstay protector. What's funny
is Trek only offered the 600 model in race blue in 1985. The decals also match the 86 models
only there wasn't a 600 model, it does look similiar to the 560 Pro model but that had yellow
head tube. . . and the 531Cs main tube sticker seems to support this being a top of the range
model (within catagory of sport or race).
If you have the serial number I can look it up (or you can at www.vintage-trek.com )
I'm really curious about this. If it doesn't match anything let Skip know, he is really very
good about helping pin down anomalies.
Trek was known to throw new paint/decal schemes on bikes produced late in the yearly cycle
(my 770 has 85 decals but is an oct. 84 build).
keep us posted.
and yes you did good.

Boy that's a little bike. :)
Do you want to build it up stock or are you thinking of newer components?
I left some components stock on my 1985 Trek but used some newer stuff too. The bike turned out great and it rides like a dream.
I wish the seller took better pictures of the frame.
