I'm very new to swimming and I'm improving but if you have any tips on how to be more efficient/increase indurance/improve breathing technique it would be greatly appreciated.

I picked up the book and DVD and have been doing the drills. It's helping me.

Freestyle stroke, breathing every 3rd stroke so you alternate sides. Once you get that, then you can focus on other things. :) Seriously. It'll take afew weeks of pain and suffering (or at least what feels like pain and suffering) but once you can breathe every 3rd stroke you'll be able to swim longer and longer distances with ease. Then you won't have to focus on breathing and getting tired and can concentrate on other things such as speed and technique.

2nd this - go & get the book and DVD -
people can give you tips on breathing & stroke technique e.t.c but if you do not have a swimming background TI is the way to go
- the drills are easy to learn and you start at the beginning, getting comfortable with the water and learning to balance in the water - this is so important, if your not balanced everything else is uphill (literally, because you shud aim to be swimming downhill.. as is taught in the book)
