Any experience with the Sigma 1606L DTS?

I want to get another cadence computer and I want to go wireless. Has anyone had any experience with the Sigma 1606L DTS? Does a HRM create problems with it?

It seems like a good deal for around $60.

Any other wireless cadence computers that I should consider? It's hard to justify the Cateye CD300DW at $179.

i have the sigma sport 1606L DTS. it's a great cyclometer. however, i do not have an HRM but i can tell you that it does have problems with the Niterider storm that i have. the sigma just stops working an locks up when the Niterider is turned on. dunno if that helps you any.

This is a manufacturing defect. I bought a Sigma 1606L DTS wireless with cadence and on my first ride I was going around 23 mph and went to push the bottom right button and the computer flew off.... needless to say the computer was toast.

I contacted Sigma and they said they had a problem with the base being made a fraction too small. All I had to due was send in the old computer $4.80 and they would send me a new one for free. They were very nice about everything and very apologetic. I was really impressed with their customer service department.


OP, as for the computer..... I love it. I have an Astrale 8 (cateye wired with cadence) on my trainer and I love the Sigma so much more. It has a lot more feautres such as
-avg. cadence
-stop watch (good for intervals or testing your local hill)
-total hours spent on bike (for the year and ride)
-trip. dist, separate from current dist. (good for stage races, or 2 a days)
-* and the ability to reset any feature seprately. This let you warm up before a race and reset the avg. speed right when you are on the line without resetting any of the other data such as total trip dist.

Verdict: I really like the ability to be able to take off the compouter's sensors for rides ontop of the bike rack (hate getting caught in rain), and the ability to reset single information (astrale 8 is a generic reset), and the avg. cadence is a nice feature.

The ONLY thing I don't like is the engaging mechanism to fasten the computer to the mount. It is stupid to have buttons in a location that the motion to press the button is the same for releasing the computer.

I've got one and I use it with a polar HRM. I love it, no problems here.

But, I don't have a niterider storm..

Love mine and use it with both a polar and a suunto HRM.

Sigma works great but Cateye Double wireless is more bulletproof. Have both but, Cateye won't fail to work when Sigma locks up.

I've used a 1606 regular wired on my mountain bike/commuter for the last year and am happy with it. It shows me everything I need, picks up cadence and speed well and just has a good basic bunch of information. I've since moved on to a Blackburn Delphi 6.0 on the roadie for the wireless and HR all together. Oh and my 1606 has been through a few big crashes off road and although scratched up still works great.

I liked the first one so much I got another for my wife. Oboeguy seal of approval. :D No, really, it's very reliable and withstands the rigors of travel (it's been to Scotland and Hawaii in a suitcase with our folders). The display is a little slow in the cold but it works in sub-freezing temps.

I was trying to choose between the cateye double and the 1606, The cateye cadence sensor is huge and silver, that turned me off. Although what I do like about the cateye is the screen I belive can be set up to show the info you want , so say I want to have speed, cadence and miles. The 1606 you have to push the buttons ( the same as say a cateye micro wireless).
I like the big screen on the 1606, the cateye unit seems big overall.
The one improvement the 1606 could use is to offer better mounting for the speed sensor. It just so happens that on my wolf SL fork ( very aero) it does not sit very good with the rubber "o" rings.

I just got the 1606 DTS with cadence. I really like it but as Rich said, the mounting system for the speed sensor could use a lot of improvement. Other then that I love the features it has plus I do a lot of riding at night and the backlight works really well. I did notice that when it is cold out it gets real sluggish but that is not a real big deal.

Uh, I am planning to sell mine now. Its got all of 40 miles on it.
I realized I don't need the great back light function, and cadence. But now want to combine my heart rate into a unit.

I don't know about the current generation of Sigma wireless, but I've got a BC1600 that started life wireless. I had 3 different sets of transmitters/receivers die before I went back to a wired set up.

Just talked to Sigma,
they are working on a small adapter that will allow the use of Zip-ties on the speed sensor. At least they know its an issue and are doing something.

They finally did it on their MHR 2006, so you can use zip-ties. Does anyone have ideas how to make it on 1606L? Rubbing speed sensor makes me really crazy
