Hi, Tmar helped out previously tracking down info about a Miyata serial number for me. Hoping he'll help out again (or anyone else, of course).

T-mar is on hiatus for a while. not sure who can step up when it comes
to Miyata. Just thought I'd let you know so you don't think we (or T-mar) is ignoring you.

A good starting point is checking the codes on the components on www.vintage-trek.com. You should be able to date it to within a year if most of the original parts are still on it.

Do a search for "Miyata" posts by T-Mar. I just did and see that the two digits following the initial letter sometimes indicate the year--if so, you have a 1986. Sometimes just the first digit does though, so maybe you have an 1988. To confirm, he'll need to know the components, paint scheme, etc.

EDIT: Looking more carefully, I see that the serial # scheme is more complicated than what I describe above. Sorry about that!

I have a Miyata 1000, serial number starting with a J - it's a 1981 model, so it should be from around that year...
