Hi there,

I think that one can lose weight from any kind of exercise. I still don't eat the greatest diet but it is considerably improved from what I was eating only months ago. I am seeing muscles developing in my legs, I am experiencing a level of fitness that I have never had in my life, my asthma is under VERY good control and I LOVE cycling. I have lost
13 lbs since Christmas. Nothing earth shattering but I am thinking now that with the summer coming up, I do tend to eat ALOT of fruit. All the peaches, raspberries, nectarines, blueberries etc come into season here and I mix them in with cereal, have fruit salads, have them on the side, etc. I also start rollerblading so I am trying not to get to obsessed about my weight loss now.

Cycling is something I LOVE doing. I LOVE this new mountain bike I have and am out on it everyday....whether it be
20 KM or 50 KM.

I also started a star incentive thing for myself so I get a different colored star on my calendar depending on the distance I go and for each day that I go to the gym. So far, it seems to be working well !:-)

If some people would starve like I starve normally... They wouldn't have to worry about weight loss.

Eating once a day :D

And how is that healthy ? I eat 5 small "meals" each day. The last one being no later than 7 PM. I don't like heavy meals and I tend to eat spinach salads, sandwiches, fruit and veggies (with low fat yogurt sometimes) during the day.

I heard just eating one time a day is not healthy but if it works for you, that's good, eh ?!

It's not healthy for sure. But living is not healthy either. :D There are some people, who might wake up in the middle of the night, go to the kitchen and eat everything there is in the refrigirator. Big, adult males are usually among such people.

Justen The turkey breast is a good choice as are the small frequent meals. As others have said including yourself you have to get the diet and exercise right to lose appreciable weight especially if you are fighting against genetics.
As to the fruit don't get me wrong it is a healthy food and I eat it with most meals but too much can be counterproductive to weight loss because it is largely fructose a good energy carb but a bad storage carb because it is preferentially stored as fat rather than shuttled to the muscles to be stored as glycogen. So eat plenty for quick energy and antioxidents etc. but not enough that you store it as excess energy complex carbs are better for this.
One comment from the other thread on the energy bars from the other thread. They are inferior nutrition to whole food and not a good idea to get started on too many of for weightloss.I find their best use is refuelling on long bike rides but as you are currently doing your cycling without refuelling they may not be the best idea for you to get started on.One or two a week won't hurt but a better option for a chocolate craving IMO would be the whey protein shake I mentioned as a substitute for milk or if you stay with milk try occasionally adding some cocoa powder (without added sugar/fat as the milk lactose already provides the sugar).

Holy thread resurrection. A 6 year old thread, this has to be some kind of BF record.

From my experience, the more you climb hills, the more you start to love it, and even crave it. Its a great way to get stress out and feel better about your self. Its pretty amazing how fast your endurance will build and before you know it youll be climbing bigger and bigger hills and the weight will drop quicker and quicker. Hope that helped a bit.

Cheers,

B

Actually I believe one was ressurrected from 1999 in General Cycling just recently. It seems to be thread ressurrection time ... there's a few in Road that have come up from the grave.
