Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello,

I have only gone mountain biking once before on a casual cruise sorta thing.......

I have a 50km MTB race that I want to compete in in 3 months time. I will be on a borrowed bike, and it is not very easy to get up to the local forest to practice. The only training I can probably do is fitness/endurance on my road bike.

Also what sort of pedal setup should I have, as I have never used MTB cleats before, only LOOK road cleats.........

Thanks.

I dont even know where to start but you absently HAVE to train specifically for the course your going to race. If it's fire road or double track you might be ok BUT if it's single track and you don’t have any Technical skills training you will be setting yourself up for a big disappointment and possibly serious injury.
I think this is the only comment i can make. If you can train on some single track between now and then i might be able to help out more.

I really don't think it's a good idea to enter a mountain bike race if you've never really been mountain biking before. That's like riding a Huffy in the Tour De France... probably not a good idea.
