I am not seeking contributions although any and all are welcome. I'm inviting you to join our team (or start one of your own - a BF team wouldn't be bad either) and participate in a great ride. My team is one of the top fund raisers each year:

Long Beach / SoCal Tour

Doug Phillips Memorial Team

Doug Phillips was my best friend. He loved to ride. He loved to party and he lived life to the fullest. He also had diabetes and several years ago, after a club ride, he drove home and before he got inside his door, suffered a major heart attack and died. Heat disease is a major consequence of diabetes.

If any of you ever rode with Bike Club of Irvine (BCI) you knew Doug. He was the Club's heart and soul for many years. When Doug died, alittle of the heart and soul left with Doug. No one loved the sport of cycling like Doug. Although alittle older, and alittle overweight, he tried to stay right up there with the young, fast guys. Doug could be seen, in either his BCI or Postal jersey riding along on his beautiful red and yellow Serotta, most any day.

Come out and ride with us. You need a minimum contribution of $150. You can raise it or do like me, pay it yourself. It is tax deductible. The ride is generally beautiful and the sags well done. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email. If I have my BF SO CAL GIRLS jersey by then (hint hint James) I plan on wearing it.

Don't care where you do it. It all goes to a good cause. The OC ride is done quite well. The metric route starts at El Dorado Park, Long Beach, goes inland a while and then out to PCH. You climb up Newport Coast, turn and go down San Joaquin to Back Bay, around Back Bay and then head back onto PCH to LB. Generally the weather has been perfect. My friends and I go out and cruise the ride. Somewhere (I can't remember in what direction as I sometimes change up the ride from the route) we cross the Bay on the ferry. I think it's on the way back. Anyway - catch the Tours where ever they be.
