View Full Version : Proper Helmet Fit....

I took delivery of my new Hardcomp Comp yesterday, and went for a little ride this morning, and I have a question about proper Helmet fit. I bought the Specialized Allez Helmet, and trying in on in the shop, it seemed fine- not too snug, etc...

So I put it on this morning, adjust the straps, seating it properly so it's level, but I can still move it forward or backward some. As the shop mentioned, your head expands some while riding, so I figured this is right?

Is this normal for some movement front to rear? When riding it stayed put. I just want to make sure..... Thanks for any input!

it should shake a little bit especially when going through rough terrian.. But it should not interfere with your riding, Block your view, etc.

Thanks!

So; I should be able to move it forward some (or backward), after putting it on? While riding, it seemed to stay in place fine.

I'm no expert, but this is what I've learned.

My helmet will not move front to back except the little bit that my scalp moves.

I was told that excessive movement is dangerous because in a fall the first jarring may move the helmet before your head hits the pavement, which (of course) would negate the protection. If you suspect that a strong jolt would reposition the helmet, you should talk to the store that sold it to you about changing the situation. Some helmets can be adjusted. Some can have pads added.

Try tightening down the Brain Trust with that red knob.

Yeah, I would say the same.
Also, it's better to have it a little too tight then too loose.

I had to put a small piece of padding in the front of the helmet(S1) to get the fit good. This is acceptable, back in the day it was the only way to adjust the helmet.
Don't get it to tight, the top of your head will go to sleep.

I never heard that either, just your feet get bigger and that happens during the day anyway.
