"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Anyone racing the Squiggy?

I'm doing all three events and would like to meet some fellow posters. It should be a good race weekend.

It is a great race weekend. The TT is the smoothest 7 miles of pavement you'll ever do. The crit is new, but has a downtown feel to it, so that's always great. The RR has become a Florida classic and is always a sure bet. Enjoy!!!

I am fairly sure a bunch of the guys I ride with will be there. I am doing the River Run Saturday morning and I have a gym meet to go to Sunday, so that kills the weekend for me. :(

You know, it's funny you should mention that.. I've been thinking of going down Sunday and doing the lake race on a one day license.

I've been fighting hayfever this week, so won't make my final decision until tomorrow.

Yeah, I pre-reg'd to avoid that. This will be my last race weekend as a Cat5, can't wait to move up. The crit course looks awesome, but that switchback looks to be a prime place for a big crash.

Nice, my folks will be in New Orleans next week for their annual "eating and drinking and staying out late on Bourbon Street" routine. Look for me in the Cat5 peloton, I'll be the guy in the green and yellow USF team kit on the yellow TCR.

Just curious, does USF kick you guys any cash or anything? I saw you all in Dade City with a tent and a magnetic sticker on the the truck and everything. Is it any sort of organized club?

Also, after racing the Palm Harbor crit today, I wonder if FLCycling will ever design a crit course that does not include cobblestones in the corners. The downtown Venice course is even worse.

Next year they're aiming at having speedbumps, cattle grates, and road spikes throughout the downtown Gainesville crit. We figure it'll help give everyone a little more excitement.

Add some mud and make it a 'cross race. I'd be there!

I was at the back of the Cat 4 heat Saturday. I had family in town and spent Sunday with them. Was the road course nice?

Looking at the course, I thought it was going to be very dicey, but I didn't think it was bad to ride. Most of the corners set up well, and the two fast corners on the bottom of the course were wide.

I didn't care for how shortit was with 6 turns;made for a very hard race.

Lots of folks complained about how hard it was to move up in the pack because the whole time you were either setting up for a turn, going through a turn, or exiting a turn. And the only long straight was uphill. Made for a tough, technical course.

I corner-marshalled from noon till 9:00 p.m. (My Club, Gearlink, sponsored the race). What I observed was that the fields consistently were reduced to 1/2 size by the end of each race due to attrition. Whenever a gap opened up, the riders behind were almost never able to bridge back up.

I thought it was a great venue. Great weather. And a great turnout.

My two cents. I liked the small town atmosphere, and watching the races from the Irish Pub. If it would be possible to add another block, so that the one straight was a tad longer, I think that would be good.

it really is all about the start. i've found if you line up at the back, you might as well not line up at all.
