Davey, didn't see this post, but that's probably just as well. My ride this a.m. turned out to be a tour of mechanicals.

Planned a Nyack ride for today (3/10) and figured I'd start early to beat the crowds since the temps were supposedly getting up to 50.

It was frikkin cold at 9am. 35 & overcast. Came across a guy on the west side who had just hit something on the path & did a full endo. He was fine but his front wheel was fully tacoed. He tried to bend it back but it was toast. I let him borrow my cell to call a friend.

Up past the GWB came across another guy who had messed up link on his chain. He had a chain tool, so I showed him what I would do & told him to bring it into the closest shop (Toga?)

Finally got up to the GWB and it was already crowded. Tons of slow wobbly riders on the bridge. I'm no speedster, but if I think someone wants to pass, I'll ease over to the side a bit. It's just common courtesy.

Anyway, took one of the turns over the wet, cold sheets metal that line the corners of the Bridge & my rear wheel went right out from under me. In the process, I flatted my front tire & banged my knee so hard on the metal sheet, I saw stars.

I cleared away from the corner to check out my knee & fix the flat. As I (slowly) changed the tire I saw no less than 6 people go down in the exact same spot.

My bike was fine & but my knee was throbbing from the hit & started to swell. At that point I had had it & decided to call it a day.

On the way back ran into a guy who had crashed & bent a few teeth of his big ring. I've never seen that before. Both his front & rear derailleurs looked bent. His bike was unrideable, basically. He was going to walk have to walk it back home.

Finally got within 20 minutes of home & the temperature stated to soar. 40, then 45, finally 52 & sunny as I rolled up to the apartment. Perfect.

Wow, sounds painful, thank god I didn't go there today.
Instead I did my taxes, hung out at the bike shop all afternoon, and got myself a new fixie. :p

Think I'll just do a couple of loops of the park or the westside greenway tomorrow. Got a catch a flight to Utah for some spring skiing tomorrow night
