I was considering installing fenders on my Spec Allez Elite (steel version). Any fender recommendations?

I was going to get a second bike (beater bike), but some unexpected expenses came along and took away some money. Maybe I can luck up on a yard sale special.

I do.
Assuming your bike has threaded fender eyelets, and clearance at the brake caliper, I would recomend SKS chromoplastic ones.
The narrowest ones fit under a Shimano caliper brake (mine is 105 long drop)

I have fenders on my touring bike and commuter, the touring bike has a set of standard Planet Bike freddy fenders that can fit up to 700C - 38 tires and a set of the heavy duty freddy fenders witht the built in mud flaps on the commuter, they can fit up to a 26 - 2.2" tire, I don't have fenders on my road bike because I don't ride it when it's wet.

mkwdrs: I don't have fenders on my road bike, yet. I'm going to order a set of
SKS RaceBlade Road Fenders for it. I saw these listed in the Colorado Cyclist catalog. I just checked their web site and they're back ordered until June 1st.

I could have used them on the commute today, that's for sure.

Ditto Michael. I have those fenders on my Novara, and they appear to be indestructible. And ditto mrfix, I don't have fenders on my Fuji because I only ride it when it's nice out (which seems to be almost never, lately).

I use a clip-on rear fender for those days when the roads are still wet or if we are doing a club ride and there is a bit of light rain that isn't enough to warrant cancellation. I don't bother with a front fender since the downtube usually catches most of the spray.

I think there a several different manufacturers of these things. Your LBS probably carries them.

I use full fenders on the winter bike and a clip-ons for my road bike that I only clip on when the weatherman says rain.

I have 2 road bikes. The less expensive one I use in wet weather only and that has fenders. One of the best descions I made regarding my bikes. My good one stays clean and I don't have to clean my bike after every ride in the wet. I have a GIant TCR2 2002 and a Giant OCR Once 2003 with fenders and front mudflap. The mudflap is an additional benefit.
