Howdy!

I understand this here is the Pacific NW forum. Wow! Truly, bikeforums has it all!

I'm Adam, I live out in the sticks surrounding Corvallis, Oregon. As soon as I get my bike rejiggered for touring, I'm going to be doing some training around these here parts..


For those of you who live in the area, I'm hoping to find a few good roads to go ~45 miles one way, turn around and come back (or go in a loop), and I wonder if you fellows have any thoughts on the subject?
I was thinking I'd just go back and forth from Corvallis to Eugene on 99 or Peoria Rd (maybe down on P and back on 99), but thats all rather flat...though the wind can be pretty brutal on the return trip.

Okay, back to work (painting!)

If you ever get the chance, come out to Salem on some weekend. Start at around Lancaster / Silverton road and ride to Silverton. In Silverton, head towards Silver Creek Falls. It's a pretty decent climb, and you can take a break and check out some pretty nice scenery as well.

There are also quite a few good roads in the area out between Salem and Silverton if you get bored some weekend.

Mid-Valley Bike Club in Corvallis has ride descriptions on their website, that may help. They ride each Saturday morning, you may want to check them out. They have both fast and slow rides available, so you can take your pick. http://www.mvbc.com/

King's valley is one of my favorite rides. Some good hill climbing, great scenery. We do a loop ride out of Corvallis that's about 50 miles. Mid-valley bike club has a route description for this one. South of Corvallis you can go out Bellfountain Rd to Decker Rd. Decker has one nice climb and great downhill. It's only about a 30 mile loop. Get a Benton County bike map and you can find a number of back roads to make your ride longer. Peoria Rd is good, but yeah, pretty flat. Gotta stop at the mennonite bakery for cinnamon rolls if you go that way.

We have a route out to Newport that is about 70 miles one way. We Head out hwy 20 to Blodgett. Turn on Eddyville-Blodgett hwy toward Summit. Logsden Rd (2-mile steep, gravel section) to Siletz. Siletz to Toledo. Ride into Newport along the Bay. This ride ends at the Rogue Brewery, doesn't get much better than that!
