Mountain Biking - Now THIS is what I call a birthday!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

To start off with, my son called yesterday and invited me over for the weekend of April 1st for a Sonics BB game and a weekend of riding on Galbraith Mtn. for a birthday present. Then last night, my WSU Cougars beat the UW Huskies for the third straight time in the Pac-10 Tournament quarter-finals

Well, this morning I was talking with my dear wife about how bummed I was about not getting the Yeti sold so that I could order my Gran Mal, she says "How much is it again? When were you supposed to have the order in?" Well being the good family CFO that she is, she realized that it would be a crime to let the opportuinity get away and gave her blessing on me putting in the order for my birthday(!!)

Soooooo, I called Kevin at Transition and they still have my frame in stock; so sometime next week they should be shipping a large Gran Mal frame in the gloss blue with a Swinger 4-way. I am sooooooooo psyched!

Now I just have to relist the Yeti on ebay and get that sucker sold. All in all a great birthday so far . . . makes turning 52 not as painful :)

I though you where selling the ASX as frame only. What will be the run down on the specs?

thats cool about your son and the basketball and all but jesus dude....how do you let your wife emasculate you like that controlling the purse strings?

(yes i am married)

Buy the stuff when you want it, period. end of story.

Unless she makes all the money too, and well, then, thats cool that she is giving you money to buy a bike.

Decided I wanted to start fresh, even though the wheelset was perfectly fine, I could use the crankset and the bottom bracket & pedals are practically new.

Here's how it will probably shake out:
Fork(s): RST Sigma 8" / RST R1 7"
Wheelset: Transition Revolution - white
Stem: Sunline V-One
Bars: Sunline V-One OS
Grips: Sunline Lock-on
Headset: Sunline V-One reducer
Saddle: Syncros or Sunline V-One in white
Seatpost: Syncros Derived
Pedals: Sunline V-One or Syncros Mental Mag (white)
Chain Guide: Syncros alloy
Brakes: Hayes HFX Mag HD
Tires: Maxxis High Roller ST 2.5 or Maxxis DHR ST 2.5/DHF ST 2.5
Cassette: SRAM 8-speed

I just haven't decided on the rest of the drivetrain. I'd like to go SRAM X.7 w/grip shift but I might cheap out and do Rockets with a Shimano road derailleur again. Crankset/BB will probably be FSA or Gravity.

Unless she makes all the money too, and well, then, thats cool that she is giving you money to buy a bike.Oh, she's not "giving it to me." It's just a loan out of our household finances until the Yeti is sold. We're actually a very good team. She's real good and punctual about paying bills, doing taxes, etc. - - all of those financial things I detest doing. She's an excellent manager of our finances. We're still paying college tuition (have been for eight years - -4 of them to USC  ), so I have to be careful how I spend money on an expensive passion (hence why I've chased sponsors so hard).

In the meantime, since we've been very careful with our money, we're finishing our house that we built ourselves, were able to acquire the twenty- and ten-acre parcels adjacent to our original ten and we finally own dependable AWD cars that will always make it up a mile of road that I have to keep plowed open all winter. We are living on our dream on our own terms out in the country without a neighbor within eyesight surrounded by mountains. I'll take the inconvenience of scratching for money for some bike parts now and then :)

Ouch, USC tuition is rough, my sister goes there and needless to say my parents are certainly glad that I went to a public school. (But really, are there any California schools with better mountain biking than Santa Cruz)

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Ever since I broke my Dakar and someone suggested a Preston FR...I've been oooogling the closeout '06 Preston and DirtBag frames that they have for under $700. Holy crap if I could build one of those, I'd be droppin off anything I could find.

You're so lucky, dude. Galbraith looks like killer place to ride. Great wife too.

Happy Birthday, sir. Are you sponsored by Sunline too, or are you just liking the product?

chelboed - Sunline is a SixSixOne brand that they acquired a couple years ago. They started moto and have just branched out into an MTB component line.

Maelstrom - Yer on. I'm kind of a wimp - - I'm a fan of locally-brewed stouts and porters. But I'm always willing to expand my horizons. Case in point - My daughter sent me two CDs on my wish-list for my birthday: Offspring, Greatest Hits and Switchfoot, Beautiful Let Down.

ooo - -halftime's over: My Cougs are in the Pac-10 semis against USC. Go Cougs!

Sounds great, except for that part about the Cougs beating up the Dawgs once again in hoops. When does football season start?
By the way, USC tuition? Why are they not in Pullman?

Well, USC prevailed tonight. All I can say is they better make it count tomorrow and bury Oregon.

Hahaha...I wasn't actually buzzing. I just enjoy celebrating once in a while haha...usually friday night would be spent out on the town and then coming home a little late but I haven't seen fe-maelstrom in about a week. So I cut short those plans and had some wine with my fiance.

And to be honest, anyone visits I will treat to a drink, probably steak and a bbq :D. I love the summer and I love to show people some good ole whistler hospitality. That and I have a big ass deck thats fun to chill on after a day of riding.

No worries, I was half joking. In that case you will likely like the brew house. Fresh brewed beer right in the bar. :)

I do the tour guide thing. If I can arrange it I try to shuttle a couple of fun trails on different mountains. As for crashing depends when you are coming out, I have roomates until August this year. But if you let me know when you are coming I can give you some hints for sleeping arrangements that are reasonable :)
