This was taken this morning (03/09/07) in the bike lane on Edgewood Ave. across from Thumbs Up Diner.
Please forward to all parties who you think will be interested.
A little backgournd:
This particular section of bike lane is often blocked by vehicles
(many times police or city vehicles) parked as people visit the diner or the other shops in the area.
Laced Up, a shoe shop across from the diner, has been outwardly hostile toward
cyclists who attempt to inform the shop's customers that it is illegal to park their vehicles in the bike lane.
On sundays, nearly the entire bike lane between Randolph St. and Boulevard is taken up by cars
parked as people attend the local churches.
Cyclists have been told by the police that the best way to inform them about illegally parked vehicles
is to call 911 and report it. Many of us have been doing so any time we see an illegally parked car
for the last year or so and have yet to see any change in the parking patterns in the area.
