I some what looked up to the BC randonneurs and was dissapointed when I read the news artical about how this guy in the link states that recumbents are not bicycles http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/newsletter/submissions_2007/002_recumbents_another-look_ron-penner.html

Somehow I would also feel like I was cheating, using some strange technological advantage to overcome a physical short-coming. Added to this is the concern that Laura raised when she joined me during part of the ride: "How am I going to draft behind that thing?!?"

That's funny! In one breath he feels it would be cheating, in the next breath he states his partner's concern that it won't let her cheat.

I wouldn't trash the whole BC rando club because of one person's opinion. AFAIK there are some serious recumbent randos in that club and in any group you'll have a variety of opinions on a given subject.

Here is another article (http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/newsletter/submissions_2006/004_pbp-and-recumbents.html) by a serious bent rando in the BC club talking about different bents for PBP.

Nothing wrong with presenting different views on a subject like this.

Edit: I just remembered I am a card carrying member of the BC Rando Club!...hahaha...one more rider goes to the darkside... :D

I believe Machka reported that she saw a kickbike on the last PBP. Maybe a larger wheeled scooter?

On a ride over Mt Hamilton a couple of years ago, I observed Scarry on his Aero passing quite a few riders, and some of those were on our race team.
If it has wheels and pedals, or whatever, it can be ridden and people can have fun on it. I guess sometimes the fun part escapes us.

He starts out so ?positive?, or at least like he is getting attached to the idea, then throws the curve ball at the end... Sounds to me like if he tried a little more he could easily be convinced.. to come across to the bent side.

I am not trashing the whole group , it was just a BIG surprise for me to see that they put that letter up when they have bent riders in thier group, made me sad
