Foo - What did we used to waste our time on....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Early to Mid 80's: Bicycles, Saturday morning cartoons (back when they were worth watching), exploring storm drains, Gi-Joe, He-Man, and playing guns, taking things apart and not being able to put them back together.

Mid to late 80's: Listening to music, dirt jumping bicycles without protective gear, wrestling, computer programming, taking things apart and fixing them, dial-up BBS systems.

Early to mid 90's: Dial-up BBS systems, dial-up servers (with UUCP, usenet, and gopher access a.k.a. the 'Internet'), "hacking", riding bicycles, roller blading, fixing more complex things, computer programming, lock picking, electronics (mostly RF remote control, audio amplifier and effects circuits)

We got proper PPP internet access in 1993, but I've wasted plenty of time on things other than the Internet in the last 14 years. The Internet was a pretty big part of that, though.

I met my wife on a dial-up BBS in 1994, without being remotely interested (she was 4 years older than me and I was barely in high school), just as someone I saw online occasionally. In a fleeting moment of sheer boredom in January of 1997, I met her face to face since she only lived 15 miles away. We started dating soon thereafter and never really stopped. Got married back in '01.

Before the internet I just stayed home and watched movies or went out with some friends occasionally. However the wealth of information and the people you meet on the internet is just great. Even though there are alot of crazies out there, still the time goes faster when I'm posting in here. I got involved with forums a few years ago when my brother in law started his own. I never knew how addicting it would become. I even met a good friend through that forum, flyingscotsman. We started riding together, but then the wank'r went off and moved to North Carolina. It's cool we still keep in contact. Over time I've met alot of old friends through the internet. Long live Bike Forums.

Before the internet I just sat infront of the toaster, staring at it all day long.

Oh, and I was talking to the reflection. One day I even asked it for a pic...I was dissapointed...the cheap bastid could have at least gave me one in focus.

I was obsessed with my cars and would spend money on them like crazy.

I love to write. But I have to be in the mood to do so.

Usually non fiction or poetry. Back in the day, one of the instructors wanted me to submit one for publishing but I didn't really want to. It hit too close to home.

You think this is bad? Try "Second Life." A major time sink if there ever was one.

But never forget: there are some virtual activities that just can't substitute for the real thing. ;)
